
Terps Look to Continue Momentum at Lady Pirate

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Following its victory at the UNCG Starmount Fall Classic last weekend, the Maryland women's golf team travels to the Lady Pirate Intercollegiate at Greenville Country Club in Greenville, N.C. The tournament is set to begin Monday with an 8:35 a.m. shotgun start.
In recent years, the Terps have performed well at the event. Junior Christine Shimel and the Terrapins captured the title in 2010, and in 2005, Katie Stepanek recorded the tournament's 54-hole low (211).
Freshman Juliet Vongphoumy enters the Lady Pirate Intercollegiate coming off a second place finish at the UNCG Starmount Fall Classic. Vongphoumy leads the squad with a 74.63 scoring average through three event and ranks eighth in the ACC.
Senior Jessica Hollandsworth finished two strokes behind Vongphoumy in Greensboro, N.C. The senior is 10th in the conference in scoring with a 75.00 average. The Floyd, Va., native finished tied for third at last year's Lady Pirate Intercollegiate.
Shimel is the final Terp ranked among the ACC's top 15. Shimel's 75.75 average is 12th in the conference. In the final round of the UNCG Starmount Fall Classic, Shimel carded her low-18 of the season an even-par 72.
Other teams competing in the Lady Pirate Intercollegiate include: Bucknell, College of Charleston, East Carolina, East Tennessee State, Elon, Furman, Georgia State, Georgetown, High Point, James Madison, Longwood, Memphis, UNC Greensboro, UNC Wilmington, Old Dominion, Pennsylvania, Western Carolina, William & Mary and Yale.
The second round of the tournament will begin immediately following the conclusion of the first round.
Greenville Country Club is a par 72, 6.056-yard course. Live scoring will be available via Golfstat.
