LANDOVER, Md. - Postgame notes following Maryland's 45-21 loss to Notre Dame at FedEx Field.

Kicking Off: Maryland fell to 2-8 on the year with the 45-21 loss while the Irish improved to 7-3 ... Notre Dame has won both meetings in the series, having captured a 22-0 victory on 8/31/2002 at Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J. ... Maryland fell to 7-16 all-time against current FBS Independents.

Starting Lineup: Maryland used a different defensive starting lineup for the 10th time in 10 games this season. Trenton Hughes made his first start of the year at cornerback and true freshman A.J. Hendy earned a start at safety. Hendy is the first true freshman to start at safety for Maryland since Lamont Gore on Nov. 20, 1993, against Wake Forest.

O'Brien Reaches 4K: Danny O'Brien went 14 of 21 for 132 yards and became just the ninth QB in school history to reach 4,000 career passing yards. He now has 4,086 in his career, moving past Brian Cummings (4,080,1994-97) for eighth all time.

Sacks: The Notre Dame offense had allowed just five sacks all season entering the game. The Irish surrendered two against USF (9/3) and Pittsburgh (9/24) and one against Michigan State (9/17) while holding the opponent without a sack in six games. Maryland, however, sacked Irish QB Tommy Rees three times. LB Alex Twine and DE Marcus Whitfield had a sack each, while DT Andre Monroe and DE Keith Bowers combined on another.

Streaks and Trends: Trenton Hughes started in place of Cameron Chism at cornerback, snapping a streak of 32 straight starts by Chism, which had been the longest on the team. OT R.J. Dill's 28 straight starts are now the most on the team ... LB Demetrius Hartsfield had 13 tackles and has posted double-digit stops in five of the seven games he's played in this season.

Defensive Notes: True freshman LB Alex Twine, in his third start, posted a season-high 12 tackles including three tackles for loss and a sack. The three TFLs are the most by a Maryland player in a game this year. In his three starts, Twine is averaging 10 tackles per game ... in his first career start, true freshman safety A.J. Hendy tied for a game high with 13 tackles, including nine solo stops and a TFL ... Eric Franklin had his sixth double-digit tackle game of the year with 12.

Brown Moves Up Rushing List: C.J. Brown replaced an injured Danny O'Brien in the third quarter and went 6 of 10 for 87 yards and rushed three times for 31 yards and a TD. Brown led the Terps on a 10-play, 97-yard scoring drive capped by his 24-yard TD run and a 13-play, 67-yard scoring drive. His 387 rushing yards this season are the second most by a Maryland QB in a single season since 1950 (Mark Manges - 448 in 1976).

Tidbits: D.J. Adams had a season-high 16 rushing attempts for 55 yards and a touchdown, along with two catches for 13 yards ... Quintin McCree had a team-high five catches for 76 yards and a touchdown, his first of the season. McCree had 269 receiving yards in his first 31 career games and has 401 in the last four... there was just one turnover in the game, a Danny O'Brien interception.
