COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Five members of the third-ranked Maryland field hockey team were selected to the All-Atlantic Coast Conference team, the league announced Wednesday.
Jemma Buckley, Megan Frazer, Ali McEvoy, Harriet Tibble and Jill Witmer were all honored by the league. It is the second consecutive annual conference honor for Buckley, Frazer, Tibble and Witmer and first for McEvoy.
Maryland and North Carolina are the only schools to land five players to the All-ACC Team, while four Duke players were honored. Wake had three representatives, while Virginia and Boston College each had one.
Buckley is second in the ACC in goals scored this season with 18 and leads with goals, points and shots in conference play. She was named to NFHCA Senior Game earlier this week.
Frazer is tied with Buckley for the most goals in ACC play with five, including two game-winners.
McEvoy and Tibble have led the Terrapin defensive unit this season. McEvoy has notched two defensive saves, four goals and four assists this year. Tibble leads the league in assists with 16 and notched a career-high three at Rutgers on Sunday.
Witmer, the 2010 ACC Freshman of the Year, is tied for third in the league in scoring with her 15 goals this season and has three game-winners.
The Terrapins will play host to the ACC Tournament this weekend. They are the two-seed and will play either third-seeded Duke or sixth-seeded Virginia Friday at 3:30 p.m. at the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex. The Blue Devils and the Cavaliers play Thursday at 3:30 p.m.
