Maryland Head Coach Sasho Cirovski
Opening Statement:
"Feels good to win again. We had a great week of practice. I expected us to be very good tonight and we were. There was a lot of focus and a lot of energy in training this week. I thought tonight we did all the little things right. I'm really proud of Casey, for him to score three goals here, he really played like a senior leader. I thought defensively the entire team did a great job. I think tonight you saw a very good performance. West Virginia is a very difficult team to play against, very athletic, very skillful. For us to have to have a performance like that against a high quality team like that is a credit to our players."
On Casey Townsend:
"Casey's a striker. I think at times he tried to be too much the vocal and emotional leader. We ask Casey to be the inspiration through his effort and his goals. You see what type of inspirational leader he is. He's all over the place. We're going to get that from Casey, he's been doing it all week in training."
Maryland Senior Forward Casey Townsend
On converting on shot attempts:
"As a goal scorer and as a team, your mindset never really changes. You expect to score, you expect those balls to go in. If your mindset changes and you get down on yourself, that's when they stop going in. My mindset and everyone else's was if they get a chance they think their going to score. I don't think that's changed for us. We were all confident and we knew that we could score and it was just going to be a matter of time and today they went in."
Maryland Junior Defender Taylor Kemp
On Keith Cardona:
"I thought he did awesome, he looked confident. He had a good week of training and we put our faith in him and its paying off. I expect him to do nothing but grow and get better from this point on. I'm proud of him. It felt good to get a shutout because it had been a little while."
West Virginia Coach Marlon LeBlanc
On Maryland's performance:
"They bagged four goals. It's the first time a team has scored four goals against us since I have been at West Virginia in six years. Maryland executed better than we did on the night."
"They were a little bit more direct tonight than they were in August. They had a game plan to put us under as much pressure and as much duress as possible. It was the most direct I have ever seen a Maryland team play. A lot of teams play direct without a lot of purpose; Maryland was direct tonight with a lot of purpose."
On the team's performance:
"Great group of guys...you hate to see your seniors go out with a loss, but there is only one team that will have their seniors go out with a win. We came here expecting to win the game. You got to tip your hats to any group of players that can go out there and play as hard as they did. When we walked off the field at the end of the game today, I told them I was proud of them. We've had games during this season that we've lost that I haven't been happy, but I was proud of the effort our guys put in today."
