Junior Caitlin Adams led the Terps with 10 kills and senior Sharon Strizak closed the match, and her Maryland career, with a kill as the Maryland volleyball team (10-22, 3-17 ACC) defeated Boston College 3-0 (25-21, 25-19, 25-21) Wednesday afternoon at Comcast Pavilion to conclude the regular season.
Adams added six blocks to go along with her 10 kills on a season-high .625 hitting percentage. Sophomore Mary Cushman finished one kill shy of a double-double with nine kills and 14 digs, and was one of three Terps to record double-digit digs. Sophomores Sarah Harper and Caroline Niski tallied 12 and 10, respectively.
The two teams played a tight first set which featured 16 ties and lead changes. With the set tied at 20, Adams registered a kill and added a block to give the Terps a two point lead. The Eagles attempted to stop the Terrapins momentum and called timeout. But Boston College committed back-to-back errors to give Maryland set point. After an Eagle kill, Cushman tallied her fifth kill of the set to put the Terps up 1-0.
Maryland drew even at 16 in the second set following a Strizak kill. With Strizak serving, the Terps scored the next four points capped by a service ace to give the Terps a 20-16 lead. The Eagles did not get closer than three points as Maryland went on to win the set 25-19.
Trailing 14-10 in the third set, Maryland scored five points in a row to earn a one point advantage. The Terps and Eagles traded the next seven points. Back-to-back Boston College errors gave the Terrapins a two point lead. The Eagles closed the gap to one with a kill following a timeout. But senior Maddi Lee, Strizak and Cushman scored the next three points to give Maryland a 23-19 lead. After the Terps gained match point, Strizak secured a Maryland victory.
