Postgame notes following Maryland's 56-41 loss at NC State.
Kicking Off: Maryland finished the season 2-10 (1-7 ACC) with its 56-41 loss to NC State (7-5, 4-4 ACC) ... the Terps held a 41-14 lead with 10:50 left in the third quarter, but the Wolfpack scored 42 unanswered points to win ... the all-time series is now tied, 32-32-4 ... Maryland has won eight of the last 12 meetings, but NC State has won two straight at home.
Defensive Scores: Maryland recorded its fourth and fifth defensive touchdowns of the season against N.C. State. Joe Vellano had a 30-yard fumble return for a TD against Miami, and Cameron Chism had interception returns for TDs against Miami and Clemson. The Terps have 11 defensive TDs in the last 28 games.
Brown Rushing Average: C.J. Brown carried the ball 15 times for 77 yards, finishing the season with 79 carries for 574 yards. That's an average of 7.27 yards per carry, which is the third-highest average in school history (minimum 75 attempts). Chet Hanulak averaged 9.78 ypc in 1953 and Ed Modzelewski averaged 7.38 in 1951.
Brown on ACC Rushing List: Brown's 574 rushing yards this season are the 13th most by a QB in a single season in ACC history. Woodrow Dantzler of Clemson, who had 1,061 rushing yards in 2001, owns the record.
Meggett Moves To 7th: With 91 rushing yards, Davin Meggett finished his career with 2,411, moving him past Da'Rel Scott (2,401, 2007-10) for seventh all-time on the Maryland career rushing yards list. Meggett's 46-yard TD run in the third quarter was his second longest of the season (47 against Wake Forest).
Defensive Notes: Darin Drakeford had his team-high fourth forced fumble of the season ... Eric Franklin finished the season with 106 tackles, becoming just the second Maryland DB in the last 11 seasons to reach 100 stops (Kenny Tate, 100 in 2010) ... Demetrius Hartsfield had a career-high 18 tackles and joined Franklin with over 100 tackles this season (108).
D-Line Improvement: Maryland's defensive line consistently produced sacks over the final three games. The Terps had 16 sacks in the first nine games (1.78 pg) and 10 in the last three (3.33 pg). Joe Vellano, Keith Bowers, A.J. Francis and Marcus Whitfield each had a sack against NC State.
Streaks and Trends: OT Joe Vellano made his 25th consecutive start which leads the defense ... Demetrius Hartsfield (18) posted double-digit tackles for the seventh time in the nine games he played in this season.
Tidbits: D.J. Adams had a 33-yard run in the second quarter, the longest of his career ... his previous long was a 23 yarder against Morgan State on 9/11/10 ... Kevin Dorsey's 59-yard reception in the second quarter was the second longest by a Maryland player this year (Quintin McCree 69 at Florida State) ... Maryland used a different defensive starting lineup for the 12th time in 12 games this year ... Maryland was 5 of 7 on third down in the first half but 1 of 5 in the second ... NC State won the time of possession 34:53 to 25:07.
