COLLEGE PARK, Md. -
Maryland will look to send its senior class out with a victory Saturday when the Virginia Cavaliers visit Capital One Field at Byrd Stadium.
The Terps (2-6, 1-4 Atlantic Coast Conference), who held their final practice of the week Thursday, hope to regain the services of a number of injured players for their final home games of the season.
Wide receiver Kevin Dorsey, linebacker Demetrius Hartsfield and offensive lineman Justin Gilbert are all expected to play against Virginia (5-3, 2-2) which has won three of its last four games.
"Kevin Dorsey will start [at wide receiver]," Maryland head coach Randy Edsall said on his Thursday conference call with reporters. "He has looked good in practice. Justin Gilbert will get some playing time this week as well, as will [Darin Drakeford] and [Demetrius Hartsfield]. It's good to have some of these guys back."
Drakeford returned from injury last week, but Dorsey has missed the last two games and Hartsfield the previous three.
Despite the time on the sidelines, Dorsey still leads the team in receptions (29) and Hartsfield is third on the team in tackles (51).
Gilbert, meanwhile, hasn't played since the third game of last season. He was the starter at left tackle in 2010, but is listed as the No. 2 left guard on this week's depth chart.
As far as the two-deep goes, Edsall announced changes on Thursday due to the suspension of defensive lineman David Mackall.
Marcus Whitfield, who started for Mackall in last week's Boston College game, is now first on the depth chart at one defensive end position. Whitfield will be backed up by Alvin Thomas, while Ian Evans moves to No. 2 on the depth chart behind Keith Bowers.
Edsall said Mackall will not return to the field this season.
"He is suspended indefinitely," Edsall said. "Indefinitely could be a long time. When there is a need to talk about anything else in regards to that situation, I will."
C.J. Brown started at quarterback for the Terps against BC, though Danny O'Brien finished the game.
Either could start against the Cavaliers.
"Those guys are competing and working," Edsall said of the two quarterbacks. "It's nice, it's healthy, and it's guys just trying to be the best they can be. The good thing is, I'm just thankful we have two guys like that and two guys I feel can win ball games for us. We can play one or we can play both. Those are the things we're deciding each week."
Saturday's game is scheduled to kick off at 12:30 p.m. and tickets are available for as low as $30. There are also Family Four-Packs available for $72.
The game will be broadcast regionally on The ACC Network. Locally, the game can be viewed on WJZ-TV (Channel 13) in Baltimore and WTTG-TV (FOX 5) in Washington, D.C.
The game can also be heard over the Terrapin Sports Radio Network (TSRN) which includes ESPN 980 in Washington, D.C. and 105.7 FM in Baltimore.
