COLLEGE PARK, MD. - The University of Maryland women's soccer team has been selected to host La Salle in the first round of the 2011 NCAA Tournament. The 22nd-ranked Terrapins will take on the Explorers on Friday, Nov. 11, at Ludwig Field at 6 p.m.

Maryland, which is one of 64 teams selected to play in the tournament, is making its 12th overall appearance and boasts a record of 10-5-4. The No. 23 Explorers, 15-1-3 overall, also received an at-large selection after winning the Atlantic 10 regular season title. The Terrapins and Explorers were put into the Stanford bracket.

"We're just honored to be a part of the 64-team field," said Maryland coach Brian Pensky, whose Terrapins are making their third-consecutive trip to the tournament. "This year's tournament is wide open, with any number of teams being able to win the national championship. Our challenge begins this Friday with a very talented La Salle team, which was undefeated until four days ago. Paul Royal has done an outstanding job building that program into a national contender."

The Terrapins have a 4-1-1 all-time record against La Salle and have out-scored the Explorers 17-7 in the series, but the two schools have not played since 1993.

This is the first season for the 1-2-1-2 format that features 32 first round games played at campus sites. The winners of the first round games will move on to a second and third round pod at the site of the highest remaining team in the pod on the weekend of Nov. 18-20.

The winner of the Maryland-LaSalle match will play the winner of the No. 3 seed Auburn-Utah State match. The other half of the pod has Illinois hosting defending national champion Notre Dame and Arkansas-Pine Bluff traveling to No. 2 seed Oklahoma State.

Tickets for the Friday's first round match are $7 for adults and $4 for students, youth and seniors. Advance tickets are available through the Maryland ticket office by calling 1-800-IM-A-TERP.

During the regular season the Terps faced nine teams that made it into the 2011 tournament field, including seven seeded teams. Stanford, Duke, Florida State and Wake Forest each earned No. 1 seeds, while Virginia is the No. 2 seed in the FSU bracket. North Carolina was named the No. 3 seed in the WF bracket. Boston College is the No. 4 seed in the Stanford bracket. Virginia Tech and Miami made the tournament as unseeded teams.
