Maryland Falls to Wagner in Overtime

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Laura Vanderbent scored with three seconds left in the second overtime to lead Wagner to a 9-8 victory over the Terps water polo team Saturday evening in the nightcap of the Maryland Invitational.
Maryland's Katie Ermakova scored with 33 seconds left in regulation to tie the game at 7-all and send it into the extra session.
Simone Lewis put the Terps (1-4) ahead 8-7 one minute into the first session before Vanderbent tied at the 1:54 mark of the second 3:00 overtime, setting the stage for her dramatic goal.
Ermakova and Meghan Powers had two goals apiece for the Terps, while Vanderbent and Molly Robinson scored twice each for Wagner.
Laura Karbach had a strong game in net for Wagner (5-1) blocking 10 shots, many from point-blank range.
The game was close throughout as neither team led by more than two goals.
Play in the Maryland Invitational began Saturday morning at the Eppley Recreation Center with George Washington (2-3) downing Bucknell, 10-8.
Wagner posted a come-from-behind 13-12 victory over Bucknell (4-2) in the second game of the day.
The tournament concludes Sunday with a pair of games. The Terps will play Bucknell at 9:30 a.m. with George Washington and Wagner facing off at 11 a.m.
Admission is free to all games during the two-day event.
