COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maryland opened the second day of the Maryland Invitational with a convincing 12-8 victory over Bucknell Sunday morning. After a heart-breaking 9-8 loss against Wagner Saturday, the Terps leadership rallied to guide the team to a victory.
Maryland senior Ally Beck matched a career high with four goals, all in the first half, setting the team's motivation high in order to pull out through with a win.
"Ally Beck did a nice job today," said Maryland head coach Carl Salyer. "The defense they were playing opened up chances for our 2-meter players. Ally responded, as well as Carly [Hoshko] and Molly [Ruth] who had nice goals."
Hoshko scored the first goal of the second quarter, giving the Terps a 4-2 lead at the 7:35 mark. The Terps were on fire the rest of the quarter, scoring three goals (two by Beck, one by Ruth) to take a 7-4 lead into the locker room.
Ruth scored two goals for the Terps (2-4), while Amanda Skonezney and Meghan McNally scored twice each for Bucknell (4-3).
Maryland led by as many as six during the game, but Bucknell could get no closer than four goals in the second half.
"We came back well after a tough loss. We had a good attitude and got a much-needed win," said Salyer.
The tournament concluded with Wagner's 8-7 victory over George Washington Sunday morning. Wagner went a perfect 3-0 over the weekend.
