GREENSBORO, N.C. - Four University of Maryland volleyball players were named to the Atlantic Coast Conference Volleyball All-Academic Team, the league announced Friday.
Senior right side Brittney Grove, a communication and marketing double major, earned the honor for the third consecutive season. Senior libero Bethany Springer, a mechanical engineering major, also received the award in 2008.
Junior middle blocker Lisa Scott, a criminology and criminal justice major, was named to the conference's all-academic team for the first time.
Freshman outside hitter Mary Cushman, currently undecided, rounded out the Terrapins' selections and was one of just two freshmen on the all-academic team.
To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during her academic career.
Duke's Sophia Dunworth was named the 2010 ACC Volleyball Scholar-Athlete of the Year and the Blue Devils led the conference with five all-academic honorees.
Maryland's four selections are the most ever in school history since the conference's inaugural all-academic team in 2005.
