JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Junior Jessica Hollandsworth and the University of Maryland women's golf team finished in the top-10 at the JMU Invitational at Eagle Landing in Jacksonville, Fla. to open the spring season on Sunday.
A Floyd, Va., native, Hollandsworth tied for 17th-place to lead the Terps to an eighth-place finish in the team's first tourmament of the 2011 spring season. After opening the invitational on Friday with a 76, Hollandsworth shot team lows on both Saturday (73) and Sunday (75) to finish at 224 overall.
Behind Hollandsworth, sophomore Christine Shimel shot a 226 to tie for 26th. Senior Kerri Connolly ended Sunday's final-round action tied at 49 thanks to her 232 overall. Sophomore Hayley Brown hit a 237 while senior Hilary Lawson was a pair back at 239.
As a team, Maryland finished in eighth at 912 overall, just four and six strokes behind Illinois and Stetson for seventh and sixth-place, respectively.
Chattanooga claimed both the individual and team titles Sunday as Christine Wolf hit a tournament-best 209 over three days. Fellow Moc golfer Emma de Groot finished in second individually at 213 while Miami's Maria Ronderos rounded out the top-three at 215.
East Carolina earned second with a team score of 892 while Campbell finished in third with the tournament's only other sub-900 score at 894.
