IRVINE, Calif. -
Despite rainy conditions, No 12 Cal Irvine got off to a strong start and never looked back in downing Maryland, 15-2, Wednesday night.
The Anteaters (12-7) scored six first-period goals and took a commanding 8-0 lead into the locker room.
Danielle Warde scored a game-high four goals and Michaela Pierandozzi chipped in three for Cal Irvine which knocked off Cal Baptist, 17-4, earlier in the day.
Jessica Ernst and Carly Hosko scored for the Terps (12-10), who put pressure on the Anteater defense but were unable to light the lamp.
UCI's Lauren Davis posted 12 saves and her backup, Katie Avetoom, added three.
The Terps, 3-2 on their spring break trip, play at No. 3 USC at 5 p.m. PDT Friday.
