Terps Release 2011 Spring Schedule

March 4, 2011

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The University of Maryland women's soccer team will be competing for good causes this spring when the Terps take part in the B+ Foundation College Classic and KICKS Against Breast Cancer event as part of their 2011 spring schedule, Maryland women's soccer coach Brian Pensky announced today.

The spring season kicks off on Saturday, March 12 at the United Sports Training Center in Downingtown, Pa., with a match against the Philadelphia Independence of Women's Professional Soccer (WPS) at 2 p.m.

Maryland then hosts Georgetown in a rematch of the 2010 NCAA tournament on Friday, April 1 in College Park at 7 p.m.

The following Saturday, April 9, finds Terps at the 15th annual KICKS Against Breast Cancer intercollegiate women's tournament at Germantown, Md. Maryland will face ACC rival Virginia at 4 p.m. on the Stadium Field.

Kicks against Breast Cancer (KABC) was established in honor of Claudia Mayer who passed away in 1996 after a two-year battle with breast cancer. Funds raised from the tournament have been used to assist with the operating expenses for Howard County General Hospital's Claudia Mayer Cancer Resource and Image Center in Columbia. Maryland and mammography screenings were offered to more than 30 women who lacked health insurance. We are proud to say that lives have been saved as a result of the screenings. Since the inaugural tournament, many other businesses have joined in establishing additional fundraising events.

All proceeds for this event go to Howard County General Hospital's Claudia Mayer Cancer Resource Center: a member of Johns Hopkins Medicine in Columbia, MD, a 501c3 non-profit organization supporting individual's affected by cancer.

The next Saturday, Maryland will be competing for another good cause at the B+ Foundation College Classic at the Kirkwood Soccer Complex in New Castle, Del. The Terps will face Princeton at 11:30 a.m. and will then take on Villanova at 2:30 p.m.

The B+ Foundation College Classic supports the Andrew McDonough B+ Foundation, which honors the memory of Andrew McDonough, a 14 year old athlete and `A' student at Salesianum HS from Wilmington, Delaware. Andrew went from playing four soccer games on January 27, 2007 to cardiac arrest and a diagnosis of leukemia and sepsis just 48 hours later. Andrew's blood type and the family's motto was, and continues to be, "B+" ..."Be Positive". For more information, including how to donate, visit the B+ Foundation website.

Maryland rounds out its spring schedule with two home games. The Terps host Penn State on Friday, April 22 at 7 p.m. before finishing with the annual Alumni Game on Saturday, April 30 at 3 p.m.
