PRINCETON, N.J. -
Behind a career-best five goals from Ally Beck the Maryland water polo team extended its winning streak to six games with 12-8 win over Marist Saturday morning, but 14th-ranked Hartwick snapped it hours later with a 10-7 win.
The Terps (7-5) took control early against Marist (4-9), jumping out to a 4-0 lead, and held on for the win, but had a chance to break the game open.
"We need to do a better job on the power play," Maryland head coach Carl Salyer said after the game against the Red Foxes. "We need to sort some things out offensively, but it was still a good win."
Meghan Powers and Allison Campbell each scored two goals for Maryland in the first of its three games at the two-day, round-robin event. Shelby Reyes chipped in five saves in the Terps second win over Marist in the last eight days.
Beck, who was held scoreless against Hartwick, has notched three or more goals in five of last seven games and has tallied a team-best 27 times this season.
The Terps had an uneven performance against Hartwick (9-6). They trailed just 5-4 at the half, but surrendered a pair of goals on the first two possessions of the fourth quarter and couldn't recover.
"We made some silly mistakes and Hartwick capitalized," Salyer said.
Campbell had a team-best three goals against Hartwick and Reyes turned aside nine shots while going the distance in net.
The Terps will look to close the weekend on a winning note when they take on 17th-ranked Indiana at 11 a.m. Sunday at Princeton's DeNunzio Pool.
