OXFORD, Miss. - Junior Jessica Hollandsworth fired off a first-round 71 to lead the University of Maryland women's golf team to a second-place tie after Friday's round one of the Rebel Intercollegiate, hosted by Ole Miss.
Hollandsworth, who placed in third at the John Kirk/Panther Intercollegiate last week, is three strokes behind Southern Mississippi's Virginia Espejo for first place. At one-over, Hayley Brown is tied for 11th while Christine Shieml and Hilary Lawson are both locked in a 13-way tie for 39th with 77 apiece. Kerri Connolly rounds out Maryland's scorers with a first-round 81, good for 77th.
With a team score of 298, Maryland is tied for second along with Mississippi and Coastal Carolina. Leading the way, Tennessee is in first, eight strokes ahead, at 290.
Play resumes Saturday morning with Connolly teeing off in group two at 8:39 a.m.
