COLLEGE PARK, Md. -The University of Maryland women's golf team will look to improve upon last year's sixth-place finish when it returns to the Atlantic Coast Conference Championships, held in Greensboro, N.C., Friday through Sunday, April 15-17.
The Terps and the conference's other eight squads will compete in three rounds of championship golf at the Sedgefield Country Club's par-71, 6,355-yard course.
Maryland will tee off in group 2 with Florida State and North Carolina beginning at 9:20 a.m. NC State, Miami and Boston College will open the tournament in group 1 at 8:30 a.m. while two-time defending conference champions Wake Forest will lead group 3, along with Virginia and Duke.
Junior Jessica Hollandsworth and sophomore Christine Shimel have led the Terps in 2010-11, combining for the top team spot in all eight intercollegiates this season.
Hollandsworth most recently led Maryland to an eighth-place finish at the Rebel Intercollegiate thanks to the Floyd, Va., native's 223, earning her a tie for 12th individually.
Shimel's best performance came in the fall when she was awarded the individual title at the Lady Pirate Intercollegiate, thanks to her one-under 212. In the very next event, the FIU Pat Bradley Invitational, Shimel again led the team with a one-over 217, tying her for fourth overall.
Senior Kerri Connolly has earned top-50 finishes in all but one event this season while sophomore Hayley Brown finished in the top-25 at the Rebel Intercollegiate with a three-round 225.
Rounding out the Maryland tournament squad is senior Hilary Lawson, who fired a season-best 231 at the Pat Bradley Invitational to close out the fall season.
In last year's conference championship, the Terps carded a 915 (299-305-311) for sixth-place, their best finish in three seasons.
