GREENSBORO, N.C. - Junior Jessica Hollandsworth fired off a par 71 over the first 18 holes and the University of Maryland women's golf team finished Day 1 in sixth place at the 2011 Atlantic Coast Conference Championships, held at the Sedgefield Country Club.
The Terrapins will begin Saturday's second round at approximately 8:30 a.m., when they look to move up the leaderboards.
Currently in sixth, Maryland has a team card of 298, just one back of Duke for fifth and two back of two-time defending champion Wake Forest for fourth. Virginia and Florida State are tied for second at 295, while North Carolina sits in first place with a plus-five 289. Miami is in seventh at 302 while NC State and Boston College round out the teams at 311 and 314.
On the day, Hollandsworth had four total birdies, third-best in the field, to lead the team.
Behind Hollandsworth, Hilary Lawson is tied for eighteenth at 75. Christine Shimel and Hayley Brown sit in a tie for 21st one stroke back, at 76. Kerri Connolly shot a first-round 82 and is in 42nd place.
North Carolina's Allie White holds the individual lead with a five-under 66. Wake Forest's Cheyenne Woods is in second place at 70.
