POSITION TITLE:            Assistant Coach - Men's / Women's Swimming & Diving

 

DEPARTMENT:                 Intercollegiate Athletics

 

CATEGORY:                      Non-tenured Faculty Contract (112916)

 

UNIVERSITY: The University of Maryland is one of the more comprehensive and successful athletic programs in the United States with 27 sports and an annual expense budget of approximately $55 million in the context of a distinguished academic University. The University is a member of the prestigious Association of American Universities and is located on a beautiful campus located eight miles north of the nation's capital and near Columbia, Maryland, which was recently listed as  the  #2 “Best Place to Live” by Money Magazine. Currently, 92 of the University's academic programs are ranked in their respective Top 25 nationally. The men's and women's swimming and diving teams practice & compete in one of the premier collegiate athletic aquatic facilities in the country, which hosts international and national championships such as the World Cup Swimming Championship, USA Swimming National Championship, and Atlantic Coast Conference Championship. 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES: Assist the Head Coach for Men's and Women's Swimming with the organization, development and implementation of a nationally competitive, Division I intercollegiate swimming program. Specific duties include: working and coaching as a team player within a dynamic coaching staff; identifying and coordinating recruitment of upper level, Division I student-athletes and effectively utilizing electronic recruiting databases; on deck coaching; strength and conditioning and seasonal preparation for training plans; scheduling practices and meets; Hy-Tek team and meet manager; logistics of team travel; ordering and managing team equipment needs; administration of team budgets; monitoring academic progress of student-athlete; participating in fund raising and public relations activities; enforcement of team rules; and other responsibilities as assigned by the head coach. Develop and maintain effective interaction with students, colleagues, university staff, alumni and the general public. Knowledge of and commitment to compliance with all NCAA, ACC and University rules and regulations as well as dedication to the full academic development of student-athletes are essential requirements.

 

QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree preferred. One to five years coaching experience required, preferably at the Division I collegiate level. U.S. Swimming Coach's certification, CPR, First Aid certifications preferred. Strong communication, organizational, administrative and computer skills.

 

SALARY:             Commensurate with experience.
