AUBURN, Wash. - Junior Jessica Hollandsworth placed in the top half at the NCAA West Regional Saturday after shooting a 17-over par 233 and tying for 58th, individually.
A three-time All-ACC selection, Hollandsworth led the Univeristy of Maryland women's golf squad with team-bests in all four spring events in 2011 and placed fifth at the ACC Championship.
For her strong junior campaign, Hollandsworth, a Floyd, Va., native, was awarded just one of 18 invitations to compete as an individual at an NCAA Regional site. She now has participated in the postseason in each of her three seasons at Maryland, as she played as in individual in 2009 and as a part of the tournament-qualifying team in 2010.
Tennessee's Eric Popson claimed the individual title with an eight-under 208. Lizette Salas of USC took second five strokes back, at 213.
USC won the team title with a combined two-over 866 with the Volunteers placing second at 876. West Virginia (+23), UC Davis (+23), Arizona (+31), South Carolina (+38), host Washington (+41) and Texas A&M (+44) will also advance to the championship finals, to be played at the Traditions Club in Bryan, Texas from May 18-21.
Georgia's Marta Silva Zamora (+3, T-9th) and North Dakota State's Amy Anderson (+5, T-11th) will also advance as indivduals.
