GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Maryland women's golf team was well represented when the conference announced the All-ACC Academic Team on Tuesday, as senior Hilary Lawson and sophomores Hayley Brown and Christine Shimel were honored.
Maryland's three representatives tied for the second-most with Florida State, NC State and Wake Forest. Duke led the way with five honorees.
Shimel, a Spanish major, was also a member of the All-ACC Academic Team her freshman year and was one of 11 repeat honorees from across the conference. In the fall, Shimel won the Lady Pirate Intercollegiate with a 212 (71-72-69) and finished tied for fourth at the Pat Bradley Invitational. The sophomore competed in all four spring events and had two top-30 finishes.
A business management major, Brown competed in all nine events for the Terps over the course of last season. She shot a season-low 223 (73-75-75) at the Lady Pirate Intercollegiate, helping the Terps win the overall title.
Lawson graduated with her Agricultural & Resource Economics degree in May and also competed in all nine events for Maryland last season. Her 238 (75-83-85) at the ACC Championship was third best on the team.
To be eligible for consideration for the All-ACC Academic team, a student-athlete, regardless of classification, must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during her academic career.
