POSITION TITLE:             Academic Counselor, Football

 

DEPARTMENT:                 Intercollegiate Athletics

 

CATEGORY:                       Full-time, Exempt (117453)

 

UNIVERSITY: The University of Maryland is one of the more comprehensive and successful athletic programs in the United States with 27 sports and an annual expense budget of approximately $55 million in the context of a distinguished academic University. The University is a member of the prestigious Association of American Universities and is located on a beautiful campus located eight miles north of the nation's capital and near Columbia, Maryland, which was recently listed as  the  #4 “Best Place to Live” by Money Magazine. Currently, 92 of the University's academic programs are ranked in their respective Top 25 nationally.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:  The Academic Counselor in the Academic Support and Career Development Unit (ASCDU) is responsible for assisting student-athletes in meeting their academic objectives.  This individual will serve as the primary contact and academic counselor for academic plans and progress of football student-athletes.  Specific responsibilities include; participating in the recruitment, orientation, pre-registration and enrollment of student-athletes; acting as a liaison to faculty, administrators, and coaches regarding student-athletes academic matters; tracking and monitoring academic progress; coordinating and facilitating career development programs as a part of the overall C.H.A.M.P.S. / Life Skills program; teaching a section of UNIV 100- Introduction to the University course; and performing other duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:  Master's degree required, preferably in Counseling, Student Personnel, Education or related field.  At least 2-3 years of experience in post-secondary educational institutions, preferably in athletic academic services.  Must have a working knowledge of NCAA academic rules and procedures.  Strong oral and written communication skills are needed.  Must be computer literate.  Must be available and willing to work evenings and weekends. 

 

SALARY:  Commensurate with experience.
