COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maryland had a number of former players in action during the first week of NFL preseason games, with several making significant contributions. The Terps now have 37 alumni on NFL rosters, the third most in the ACC.
Below are short summaries for those that saw action in week one, followed by a complete list of current Terps in the NFL.
Lance Ball ∙ RB ∙ Denver Broncos
4th year running back Lance Ball totaled eight carries for 15 yards in the Broncos preseason debut against the Dallas Cowboys Friday. Ball also caught one pass for 12 yards in the 24-23 loss to the Cowboys.
Travis Baltz ∙ P ∙ Indianapolis Colts
Rookie punter Travis Baltz saw the field twice on Saturday for the Indianapolis Colts, totaling two punts for 84 yards in a 33-10 loss to the St. Louis Rams. Baltz had a long punt of 48 yards in his NFL debut against the Rams.
Kevin Barnes ∙ CB ∙ Washington Redskins
Kevin Barnes had a strong start to his 2011 NFL season on Friday totaling a team-high five tackles for the Redskins. The fourth-year cornerback added a sack and a pass deflection in a 16-7 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Nolan Carroll ∙ CB ∙ Miami Dolphins
Second-year player Nolan Carroll had four total tackles in his 2011 preseason debut for the Dolphins. Carroll recorded two solo and two assisted tackles as Miami overcame a 17-point deficit to defeat Atlanta 28-23.
E.J. Henderson ∙ LB ∙ Minnesota Vikings
Eight-year veteran EJ Henderson tallied three tackles as the Vikings fell to the Tennessee Titans, 14-3.
Erin Henderson ∙ LB ∙ Minnesota Vikings
Erin Henderson totaled 10 tackles against the Tennessee Titans, seven of them unassisted, while also making two tackles-for-loss.
Darrius Heyward-Bey ∙ WR ∙ Oakland Raiders
Third-year receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey had one catch for 12 yards in his 2011 debut, a 24-18 loss to the Arizona Cardinals.
Shaun Hill ∙ QB ∙ Detroit Lions
Shaun Hill went 8-of-9 for 63 yards through the air on Friday in the Lions' first preseason game against the Cincinnati Bengals. The ten-year veteran also had a seven-yard touchdown run as the Lions went on to a 34-3 romp.
Travis Ivey ∙ DL ∙ Cleveland Browns
Defensive lineman Travis Ivey recorded two tackles in the Browns 27-17 preseason win over the Green Bay Packers Saturday night.
D'Qwell Jackson ∙ LB ∙ Cleveland Browns
Five-year veteran D'Qwell Jackson tallied three tackles against the Green Bay Packers in Cleveland's 27-12 win on Saturday.
Shawne Merriman ∙ LB ∙ Buffalo Bills
Entering his seventh NFL season, Shawne Merriman recorded three tackles, two of them sacks, in a 10-3 loss against the Chicago Bears.
Adrian Moten ∙ LB ∙ Indianapolis Colts
Rookie linebacker Adrian Moten recorded three tackles in his NFL debut for the Colts on Saturday. Indianapolis fell to the St. Louis Rams, 33-10.
Jeremy Navarre ∙ DL ∙ Arizona Cardinals
Defensive lineman Jeremy Navarre recorded four tackles in a 24-18 win over the Oakland Raiders on Thursday.
Adam Podlesh ∙ P ∙ Chicago Bears
Adam Podlesh had four punts for 128 yards in his debut with the Bears. Entering his fifth season in the NFL, Podlesh had a long punt of 42 yards in a 10-3 win against the Buffalo Bills.
Isaiah Williams ∙ WR ∙ Arizona Cardinals
Wide receiver Isaiah Williams had a strong preseason debut with three catches for 50 yards. His 28-yard touchdown catch with 0:39 left in the game proved to be the game winner as Arizona beat Oakland, 24-18.
LaQuan Williams ∙ WR ∙ Baltimore Ravens
Rookie LaQuan Williams made his NFL debut with the Baltimore Ravens on Thursday, racking up 46 yards on three catches. Williams had a long reception of 20 yards in the Ravens' 13-6 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.
Madieu Williams ∙ DB ∙ San Francisco 49ers
Madie Williams made his 49ers debut Friday in a 24-3 loss to the New Orleans Saints. The defensive back recorded one tackle and one pass deflection and is entering his eighth NFL season.
Josh Wilson ∙ DB ∙ Washington Redskins
Six-year veteran Josh Wilson had two tackles for the Redskins in a 16-7 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers Friday night.
Will Yeatman ∙ TE ∙ New England Patriots
Rookie tight end Will Yeatman made his NFL debut with the Patriots Thursday in a 47-12 preseason rout of the Jacksonville Jaguars. Yeatman caught two passes for 14 yards on the night.
