Aug. 25, 2011

BRIDGEPORT, Pa. - Nine members of the Maryland Terrapins earned spots on the 2011 Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Women's Varsity Scholar-Athlete Team.

The program honors student-athletes who have achieved grade point averages of 3.20 or higher and competed during the 2011 season.

Student-athletes are honored in three different categories: Outstanding (3.71-4.00), Superior (3.41-3.70) and Excellent (3.20-3.40).

Maryland's Rachel Stein earned Outstanding recognition for the second straight year.

Shelby Reyes, Maeve O'Connor, Nicole Tobin and Elina Goldenberg secured spots on the Superior team, while Christine Goetsch, Allison Campbell, Carly Hoshko and Meghan Powers were on the Excellent squad.

Campbell, Hoshko, Reyes and Goldenberg earned Superior status in 2010, while Goetsch was a member of the Excellent squad.

As a team, Maryland fared extremely well once again. The Terps (3.10) were one of 16 teams in the CWPA with a grade-point average above a 3.0 in 2011.

Connecticut College led the way with a 3.52 team GPA.

The Terps improved slightly in their team GPA from a year ago (3.09).
