PHILADELPHIA - The top-ranked Maryland field hockey team rolled past Temple, 6-0, Monday afternoon at Geasey Field in Philadelphia. Freshman Katie Gerzabek and sophomore Jill Witmer led the Terrapins (2-0) with two goals each.

Gerzabek scored her first career goal just under four minutes into the game. After inserting on a penalty corner, the ball was passed to Jemma Buckley for the assist, then back to Gerzabek for the score.

Witmer added another Terrapins goal at the 11:09 mark after she dribbled across then took a reverse shot in front of the cage. She added her second goal with just under three minutes to play in the half with a shot from the top left side of the circle.

Buckley added a fourth goal with 14 seconds left in the first period when she knocked one in following a scramble in front of the cage.

In the 53rd minute, redshirt freshman Shelby Sydnor gave the Terrapins a 5-0 lead as Buckley assisted on the goal. Five minutes later, Gerzabek added her second score with a solo drive down the field for Maryland's sixth goal of the day.

Overall, the Terps outshot the Owls (1-1) 18-2 and took seven penalty corners to Temple's one.

Sophomore Natalie Hunter started in goal for the Terrapins. She notched a save and Temple's Lizzy Millen recorded five in just under 55 minutes in goal. Hale Mitchell recorded another save for the Owls.

The Terps, who are ranked No. 1 in the Kookaburra/NFHCA Division I Preseason poll, will play at No. 12 Old Dominion Friday at 5 p.m. at the Powhatan Sports Complex. The Monarchs are 2-0 after beating No. 8 Penn State and No. 10 American this past weekend.

After Friday's game, the Terrapins will return home to face No. 9 Michigan (1-1) Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex. Admission and parking for Sunday's game are both free.
