Senior Jemma Buckley of No. 1 Maryland field hockey (2-0) was named the Atlantic Coast Conference's Field Hockey Player of the Week the league announced Tuesday. This is the first weekly honor for Buckley in her career.
She notched her third career hat trick Friday in the Terrapins' 3-1 win over No. 19 Boston University in Philadelphia.
She scored twice in the 33rd minute to break the game open. For the first goal, she scored on shot off of a reverse shot on a penalty corner and 24 seconds later, she dribbled past Boston University's keeper for a second goal. For her final goal, Buckley struck off of another penalty corner with just under 11 minutes remaining in the game.
In the Terrapins' game Monday at Temple, she notched two assists.
Buckley and the Terps will head to No. 12 Old Dominion (2-0) Friday for a 5 p.m. matchup with the Monarchs at the Powhatan Sports Complex. Gametracker live stats will be available.
After Friday's game, the Terrapins will return to College Park for their home opener vs. No. 9 Michigan (1-1) Sunday at 1 p.m. Admission and parking for Sunday's game are both free.
