COLLEGE PARK, Md. - No. 1 Maryland's road trip will continue this week, as it heads to No. 12 Old Dominion Friday. Two of the most storied programs in the country will take the field at 5 p.m. Friday at Old Dominion's Powhatan Sports Complex.

• The match between the Terrapins and the Monarchs is the first of two between them this season. Old Dominion is the only team Maryland plays twice a year in the regular season.

• Maryland is 26-22-1 all-time vs. the Monarchs, including the last 12 straight. Between the two teams, they own a combined 16 NCAA championships (ODU 9, Maryland 7). They are the leaders in NCAA Division I field hockey titles.

Scouting The Terps
• Maryland opens its 2011 season ranked No. 1 in the Kookaburra/NFHCA Division I Preseason poll. The Terrapins are coming off of their seventh national title, ninth ACC title, and a 23-1 overall record. This is the second time in the last three years the Terrapins were voted into the preseason top spot (2009, 2011).

• The Terrapins opened their season with two wins in Philadelphia last weekend. They beat No. 19 Boston University 3-1 Friday behind senior Jemma Buckley's hat trick and they beat Temple 6-0 Monday, thanks to two goals each from freshman Katie Gerzabek and sophomore Jill Witmer.

• Buckley was named ACC Player of the Week Tuesday for her performance over the weekend. She notched her third career hat trick vs. Boston University and two assists at Temple. This is the first weekly award for Buckley. She is currently leading the league in points per game with 5.00.

• Maryland is one of two teams in the ACC that remains perfect so far this season. North Carolina (2-0) is the other.

• Junior Colleen Gulick recorded a defensive save vs. Boston University on Friday. She is the first player in the ACC to notch a defensive save this season.

Scouting The Monarchs
• Old Dominion is 2-0 so far this season. The Monarchs beat No. 8 Penn State 5-2 and No. 10 American 4-1 last weekend in Charlottesville, Va.

• Senior Emma Batten was named CAA Player of the Week Tuesday. She leads the Monarchs with seven points off of three goals and an assist. Seven Monarchs have scored a goal in the team's first two games.

• Maryland has won the last 12 straight meetings over the Monarchs, dating back to 2005.

Head Coach Missy Meharg
The 2010 NFHCA National Coach of the Year, Missy Meharg returns for her 24th season at the helm of the prestigious Terrapin field hockey program. Her current career record is 415-102-9 (.798). Below is a breakdown of just a few of her highlights since she took the reins in 1988:
• Six-time National Champions
• Nine ACC Titles
• Eight NFHCA Coach of the Year honors
• Six ACC Coach of the Year awards
• 13 NCAA Final Four Appearances
• Six Honda Awards won by four players
• 85 All-ACC selections
• 14 ACC Players of the Year
• Seven ACC Rookies of the Year
• Four Olympians

Three Named to Preseason All-ACC Team
Three Terrapins were named to the Preseason All-ACC Team - Megan Frazer, Harriet Tibble, and Jill Witmer.
• Frazer was named an NFHCA First Team All-American last year. She scored the game-winning goal in double overtime for the NCAA title over North Carolina last November.
• Tibble earned All-American honors from womensfieldhockey.com and was named to the All-ACC Team. In the 2010 national championship game, she scored her first goal of the season with 7:25 remaining to tie the game at two.
• Witmer was named ACC Rookie of the Year and an NFHCA All-American as well. She finished the season fifth in the league in goals scored with 24 and fifth in points on the year with 41.

Terps Picked to Finish No. 2 in ACC
Maryland was picked to finish second in the ACC, as voted by the league's six head coaches.
• The Terrapins received two of the six first-place votes.
• The Terrapins have won the last three straight ACC championships (2008, 2009, 2010), and nine overall.
• North Carolina, last year's NCAA and ACC runner-up, was picked to win the league with four of the first-place votes. Virginia came in third and Duke, Wake Forest and Boston College rounded out the standings, respectively.

Play the Best
Due to being in the toughest conferences in the nation, the Terrapins play one of the strongest schedules in the country.
• The Terps will battle nine of the 16 teams that participated in the 2010 NCAA Tournament. So far, Maryland is 1-0 against those teams.
• Maryland will play 12 of the 20 teams ranked in the preseason top 20 and is currently 1-0 vs preseason ranked teams.

Home Sweet Home
Since its opening in 2003, the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex has provided the Maryland hockey program a huge home field advantage.
• The Terps are 96-9 (.914) all-time at the Complex.
• Maryland currently has a 32-game home win streak going. The Terrapins haven't lost at the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex since Oct. 11, 2008 in a 3-2 lost to No. 9 Duke.
• The Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex has played home to 18 of Maryland's NCAA Tournament games, including two Final Fours (2007, 2010). The Terrapins are 17-1 in those games and won the 2010 national title on their home field.

Pack the House
• The Maryland field hockey team has increasingly attracted more and more fans to the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex season after season.
• An NCAA record crowd of 2,381 came out to watch as Maryland beat North Carolina 3-2 in double overtime for the 2010 national championship at the Complex last November.
• The Terrapins have led the ACC in attendance for four straight years. In 2010, Maryland averaged over 700 fans per game and 10,572 fans saw the Terps play during the year.

Terps in Openers
• Maryland is 33-3-2 in season openers and the Terps have won their last 15 straight.
• The Terrapins haven't opened the season at home in the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex since 2000. They've opened 23 of their 36 seasons on the road.
• The Terps are 8-0 in home openers at the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex and have outscored their opponents 35-5 in those eight games.

Meharg Named ESPNU/ESPN The Magazine Top 20 Recruiter
Terrapin head coach Missy Meharg was named one of college athletics' top 20 recruiters by ESPNU/ESPN The Magazine in January.

"ESPNU AND THE MAGAZINE asked an all-star panel a seemingly simple question: Who are the top 20 recruiters in college sports? We spoke with three dozen experts, from Mag college football Insider Bruce Feldman to volleyball legend Karch Kiraly to women's World Cupper Cat Whitehill.
