Landover, MD - The Maryland men's and women's track teams both secured meet victories on Saturday at the Terrapin Invitational, propelled by wins in six individual events.

Sophomore Kyle Graves led the way with two first place finishes in the men's 800 meters with 1:55.63 and 4:29.87 in the 1 mile run.

Maryland had the top three finishers in the women's high jump with a victory from sophomore Amina Smith (5-8). Freshman Thea LaFond was second with (5-8), and junior Lucile Cancre came in third with her jump (5-5.75).

Lafond added a victory for the women in the triple jump with 40-0.75. Junior Arielle Statham finished third with a jump of 39-8.

Freshman Myah Hicks won the women's 800 meters with 2:16.22, while senior Nicole baker finished third with a time of 2:17.82.

The women got another first place victory in the one mile run from junior Julie Fricke, finishing at 5:02.97.

Freshman Kikanae Punyua finished fourth in the in the men's mile with a time of 4:21.95. Junior Craig Morgan ran 1:56.39 to secure a second place finish in the men's 800 meters.

In the Men's 600 meter run, Maryland had two of the top three finishers with junior Shawn David coming in 2nd with a time of 1:22.26 and freshman Terrence Maliff finishing third at 1:23.26.

In the Women's Weight Throw, junior Moriah Young finished second with a throw of 61-11. Senior Jessie Echard added a third place finish with a throw of 55-5. Both qualified for the ECAC and surpassed their personal best records.

Head coach Andrew Valmon was pleased with the way both the men's and women's teams performed, and was happy to secure two meet victories at the Prince George's Sports & Learning Complex.

"This is our home site, and this is one thing that we take pretty seriously," Valmon said. "We only have one indoor meet, and I feel really good about the way these kids are competing going into the ACC [season].

The teams will split next weekend with the women heading to New York, New York Saturday Night at the Armory and the men heading to Annapolis in the Wesley Brown Invitational.
