Terps Finish 2nd at Starmount Classic

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Juliet Vongphoumy shot an even-par 213 (71-69-73) to finish third individually and propel Maryland to a second-place team finish at the Starmount Classic in Greensboro, N.C.

Vongphoumy, who was 2-under par after the tournament's opening 36 holes on Monday, shot a 2-over par 73 on Tuesday to finish behind East Carolina's F. Gustafsson Spang (7-under) and East Tennessee State's Sian Evans (1-under).

Christine Shimel shot a final round 74 to finish with a 5-over 218 (72-72-74) and tie for seventh. Heidi Baek gave the Terps a third player in the top 10 after also shooting a final round 74 to finish with a 7-over 220 (73-73-74) and tied for ninth. Emily Gimpel, meanwhile, shot a 12-over 225 (71-77-77) to finish t-21st.

Those four led Maryland to a 24-over par 876 (287-291-298), behind only East Tennessee State which shot an even-par 852.

Also competing in the event for the Terps was Kendall Dusenberry, who finished t-79th with a 251 (86-79-86).

Maryland is next in action at the Lady Pirate Invitational in Greenville, N.C. on Oct. 8-9.
