RALEIGH, N.C. - The Maryland volleyball team battled NC State Saturday night at Reynolds Coliseum but fell to the Wolfpack in three sets (25-15, 25-22, 25-20).

Elliott had 11 kills on .429 hitting to pace the Terps. Junior Mary Cushman returned from a seven-match absence and finished with seven kills and sophomore Ashleigh Crutcher added seven as well. Junior Sarah Harper tallied 16 digs.

Early in the first set, two NC State errors staked the Terps to a 2-1 lead, but the Wolfpack scored 11 of the next 13 points to take control of the set. Midway through the set, the Terps mounted a 6-2 run to cut the deficit to 15-10 behind two kills from Crutcher and solid defensive play.

The Terps were unable to maintain the momentum as the Wolfpack pushed its lead to 20-12 and won the set 25-15.

Maryland bounced back in the second set and jumped out to a 6-2 lead. Adams, Cushman and Elliott all tallied kills during the opening spurt to lead the Terps. After the Wolfpack cut the lead to 10-8, Cushman and Elliott combined on a block to punctuate a 4-1 run and put some distance between themselves and the Wolfpack.

NC State began to chip away at the lead and eventually tied the set at 22-22. Following a Terrapin timeout, the Wolfpack closed out the set with three straight points and headed into the locker room up 2-0.

After intermission, the Terps came out of the locker room strong behind three kills from freshman Emily Fraik to put the Terps up 8-3. NC State took a timeout and mounted a comeback. The Wolfpack outscored the Terps 11-3 in the stretch to earn a three point lead in the third set.

Elliott and Fraik brought the Terps back and tied the set at 17-17, but NC State scored the next three points and pulled away for the win.
