Lewis Named Associate Athletic Director For Business

COLLEGE PARK, MD. - University of Maryland director of athletics Kevin Anderson on Monday announced the hiring of Marvin Lewis as associate athletic director for business. Lewis joins Maryland after spending nearly five years as a senior associate athletics director for finance and administration at Georgia State University in Atlanta.

"Marvin has knowledge of and passion for college athletics," said Anderson. "His diverse background in finance makes him an ideal fit to lead our department."

Prior to joining Georgia State University, Lewis worked for a Frazier & Deeter LLC, a regional public accounting firm in Atlanta, for more than three years. During his tenure at Frazier & Deeter, Lewis also received his master's degree in Taxation from Georgia State University.

"I am very appreciative of this outstanding opportunity and look forward to being a part of the Maryland athletic department and its leadership team." said Lewis. "I am excited to be returning home to work with the coaches and staff at one of the country's elite athletic departments."

"We are very excited to welcome Marvin to our Terps' family," said Kelly Mehrtens, deputy athletics director/chief operating officer. "Marvin's previous experiences coupled with his CPA license makes him a tremendous addition to our athletic business office."

Lewis played college basketball at Georgia Tech and was a four-year starter and two-year captain with the Yellow Jackets. In his senior season, Lewis helped lead Georgia Tech to a Final Four appearance. Lewis graduated with honors and earned a degree in business management along with a certificate in accounting.

Lewis is a native of Germantown, Md. He and his wife, Anessa, have a son, Callen.
