Scouting The Terps
• The defending national champion Maryland is ranked No. 6 in the final Penn Monto/NFHCA Division I National Coaches poll released Nov. 6. The Terrapins are coming off of their eighth national title and a 19-4 overall record last year.
• The Terps battled No. 3 Connecticut Sunday and won 2-1 to advance to their fifth straight Final Four and 16th overall.
• UConn's Chloe Hunnable put the Huskies (19-3) on the board first when she knocked one in off a penalty corner 10 minutes into the game. With just under 12 minutes left in the first, junior
Jill Witmer brought it into the circle and got the offense moving quickly. From the baseline on the right, she sent in a pass and freshman
Alyssa Parker was able to pop in the tying goal over UConn keeper Sarah Mansfield's head.
• With 2:24 remaining in the game, Connecticut's Alicia Angelini was given a yellow card for a hard defensive play on
Katie Gerzabek. With the Terrapins a player up,
Megan Frazer took it all the way down the field and cracked a hard backhanded shot from the left elbow of the circle to put Maryland up 2-1 with 2:10 to play.
Scouting The Tigers
• Princeton is 19-1 overall and went 7-0 in Ivy League play this year. The Tigers are ranked No. 2 in the final NFHCA poll.

• In their second round game, Princeton and Virginia each scored twice in the first 10 minutes for a game tied at 2. Katie Reinprecht scored the go-ahead goal in the 17th minute and helped Princeton to a 5-2 win. Kathleen Sharkey and Sydney Kirby each scored twice.
• Sharkey is leading the Tigers with 35 goals, nine assists for 79 points.
• Maryland is 16-6-1 all-time vs. Princeton. The Tigers beat the Terps 3-2 on Oct. 2 in Princeton this year. The Terps led 2-1 at halftime, but goals by the Tigers in the 44th and 50th minutes gave Princeton the win.
• Maryland and Princeton let met in the NCAA Tournament in the 2009 NCAA Semifinals. Maryland won 7-5 to advance to the national final. The Terps led 4-1 at the half, then down 4-2, Katie Reinprecht scored in the 48th and 53rd minutes to tie it up. Maryland went on to score three more goals in a span of 10 minutes to seal the win.
Katie O'Donnell led Maryland with a hat trick and an assist, and
Megan Frazer scored once as well.
NCAA Tournament History
This will be Maryland's 25th NCAA Tournament appearance and 18th straight.
• The Terrapins own an NCAA Tournament record of 53-16 (.768) - more wins that any other school in the country.
Missy Meharg owns an NCAA Tournament record of 49-15 (.766). She is tied with UNC's Karen Shelton for the most NCAA Tournament wins, whose record is 49-22 (.690).
• Under Meharg, Maryland is 10-4 all-time in the NCAA Semifinals.
• Including Friday's matchup, the Terps have played in 16 Final Fours and 11 National Championship games overall.
• This year's senior class has now played in four Final Fours and three NCAA Championship games, winning two (2010, 2011).
• In last year's NCAA Championship game, the Terrapins trailed top-seeded UNC 2-0 with four minutes to play.
Katie Gerzabek scored off a pass from
Harriet Tibble from the corner to make it 2-1 with 3:46 to play. With 17 seconds left in regulation, the Terps earned a penalty corner and scored with 00:00 on the clock to force overtime. In the 81st minute,
Jill Witmer came in as a sub and immediately took the ball, streaked down the field and scored for the win.

Due to being in the toughest conferences in the nation, the Terrapins play one of the strongest schedules in the country.

• The Terps have battled 8 of the 16 teams that participated in the 2011 NCAA Tournament. So far, they are 8-4 vs. those teams.
• Maryland is 12-5 against ranked teams this year.

Missy Meharg
The 2010 and 2011 NFHCA National Coach of the Year and ACC Coach of the Year,
Missy Meharg returns for her 25th season at the helm of the successful Terrapin field hockey program. Her current career record is 450-111-9 (.797). Below is a breakdown of just a few of her highlights since she took the reins in 1988:

• Nine NFHCA Coach of the Year honors
• Six ACC Coach of the Year awards
• 15 NCAA Final Four Appearances
• Seven Honda Awards won by five players
• 88 All-ACC selections

Staff Updates
The Terrapins welcome a newcomer and a returnee to the program in 2012.
Marvin Bam joins as an assistant coach/technical director and
Katie O'Donnell comes on board as a student assistant coach.
• Bam comes to College Park after playing and coaching professionally in South Africa and the United Kingdom. As a member of the the South African hockey team, Bam played in over 30 international tournaments and test series, as well as the 2008 Beijing Olympics and the 2006 and 2002 Men's World Cups. He has worked with six hockey clubs between the UK and South Africa as director and head coach.
• O'Donnell is the most decorated player in Maryland hockey history. The four-time ACC Offensive Player of the Year and four-time First Team All-American recently started for Team USA in the London Olympics. She led the Terps to two national titles (2008, 2010) and three ACC titles (2008, 2009, 2010) in her career in College Park.
Oh Captain, My Captain
Seniors
Megan Frazer and
Janessa Pope will serve as the Terrapins' captains for the 2012 season. Both have been on the Terps' 2010 and 2011 NCAA championship teams.
• Frazer, a midfielder from Derry, Northern Ireland, is the 2011 Honda Sports Award winner, an All-American and was one of two team captains last season.
• Pope, a native of Harrisburg, Pa., was a key member of the Terps' championship run last season and has been an active team leader for years.
Terps Bring in Postseason Accolades
•
Megan Frazer,
Harriet Tibble and
Jill Witmer were all named to the All-ACC Team earlier this week. All are three-time honorees.
• Frazer earned the nation's top individual honor last year in the Honda Award. The senior co-captain has 28 points on the season and is in the top 10 of the league in shots (63), goals (10) and assists (8).
• Tibble was a Second Team NFHCA All-American last season. She has 12 assists on the year. She has anchored a Maryland defense that is second in the country in shutouts with nine in 23 games played.
• Witmer was a First Team NFHCA All-American last season. She leads the Terrapins in scoring this year with 14 goals. She also has 10 assists for a team-high 38 points. She is in the top 10 of the league in goals, assists and points.
• Frazer and fellow senior co-captain
Janessa Pope were both named to the NFHCA Senior Game, which will be held Nov. 17 in Norfolk, Va.
• Frazer, Witmer and freshman
Sarah Sprink were all named to the All-ACC Tournament Team. Sprink scored four goals in the Terps' ACC Tournament run and was just the fourth player in history to score four or more goals in a single tournament.
Home Sweet Home
Since its opening in 2003, the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex has provided the Maryland hockey program a huge home field advantage.
• The Terps are 115-13 (.898) all-time at the Complex.
• Maryland won 38 straight games at the Complex from Oct.11, 2008 through Oct. 14, 2011. The streak ended with a 5-2 loss to then-No. 1 Old Dominion.
• The Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex has played home to 20 of Maryland's NCAA Tournament games, including two Final Fours (2007, 2010). The Terrapins are 19-1 in those games and won the 2010 national title on their home field.
Pack the House
• This season, Maryland led the ACC in attendance for the sixth straight year. Over 7,725 fans came out to watch the Terps in College Park alone. An average of 644 fans came out to the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex at every home game.
• On Oct. 20 vs. No. 1 North Carolina, 1,123 fans came out to watch the Terrapins. It was the largest single-game attendance in the country this season. Maryland was the only team to have over 1,000 fans at any game.
• An NCAA record crowd of 2,381 came out to watch as Maryland beat North Carolina 3-2 in double overtime for the 2010 national championship at the Complex.

Meharg Named ESPNU/ESPN The Magazine Top 20 Recruiter
Terrapin head coach Missy Meharg was named one of college athletics' top 20 recruiters by ESPNU/ESPN The Magazine in January.
"ESPNU AND THE MAGAZINE asked an all-star panel a seemingly simple question: Who are the top 20 recruiters in college sports? We spoke with three dozen experts, from Mag college football Insider Bruce Feldman to volleyball legend Karch Kiraly to women's World Cupper Cat Whitehill. Turns out, baseball coaches aren't the only ones pulling roster magic from a hat half-filled with scholarships."
