COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The No. 4 seed Maryland women's soccer team heads to Palo Alto, Calif., to play Denver in the second round of the 2012 NCAA Tournament at Cagan Stadium on Friday, Nov. 16. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Eastern time.

• This is the second season for the 1-2-1-2 format that features 32 first round games played at campus sites. The winners of the third round games move on to quarterfinal game at the campus site of the highest remaining seed in the quarter of the bracket.

• The winner of the Terrapins-Pioneers match will play the winner of the No. 1 seed Stanford-Santa Clara match on Sunday, Nov. 18 at 4 p.m. Eastern. The Cardinal and the Brocos will play the second-half of the second-round doubleheader on Friday night at Cagan Stadium. That match is slated for a 10 p.m. Eastern start.

• Maryland is 14-6-2 on the season after dispatching Stony Brook, 2-0, in the first round. The Terps are led by junior forward Hayley Brock, who has 30 points on 12 goals and six assists. Brock's running mate at the forward position is senior Becky Kaplan, who has 11 goals, including six game-winners, and six assists on the season. Maryland's defense is led by senior center back Domenica Hodak and senior holding center midfielder Olivia Wagner, both of whom switched to their current positions during the season despite never playing there prior to this year.

• Denver is making its eighth appearance in the tournament field and is in the second round for just the second time after defeating Colorado College, 3-1, in the first round. The Pioneers are 16-2-4 overall on the season and earned an at-large bid out of the WAC. Denver is led by junior forward Kristen Hamilton, the 2012 WAC Offensive Player of the Year, who has 14 goals and six assists for 34 points this season. She is joined on the attack by senior forward Kaitlin Bast, who has 32 points on 12 goals and eight assists. Junior midfielder Nicholette DiGiacomo leads the Pioneers with nine assists. Senior goalkeeper Ashley Castanio has started all 22 games this season for Denver and has a 0.63 goals-against average with a .825 save percentage.

Tickets will be available by phone at 1-800-STANFORD, and at the Stanford Stadium ticket office beginning Monday at 9 a.m. One ticket is good for both Friday matches. The cost is $17 for reserved seats. For general admission, the cost is $10 for adults and $8 for youths and seniors.

Maryland Returns To The NCAA Tournament For 13th Time
• The Terps are in the NCAA Women's College Cup in four-straight seasons for the first time since 2001-04 and 13th time overall. Maryland holds a 14-10-2 record in tournament play and is 4-3-1 (.563) all-time in the second round.

• The Terrapins opened the 2012 season with a 3-0 shutout at Navy (recap | stats) that featured a one-hour 46-minute lightning delay. Becky Kaplan scored the first two goals of the season for Maryland, while Alex Reed tallied the insurance goal. Four freshmen - Aubre Baker,Riley Barger, Shannon Collins and Sarah Molina - recorded assists in their first collegiate games.

• Maryland had a short turnaround for a match at Villanova that ended in a 0-0 tie (recap | stats). Shannon Zickler filled in for Rachelle Beanlands in net for the Terps and made four saves to record her first career shutout.

• The Terps outshot the Buckeyes, 19-10, but Ohio State took advantage of a Maryland defensive lapse to pull out a 1-0 upset (recap | stats) in Columbus, Ohio.

• Maryland fell behind George Mason 1-0, but scored the game's final three goals to earn a 3-1 win over the Patriots on Aug. 31 (recap | stats). Freshman Gabby Galanti scored two minutes into her Terrapin debut to tie the match. Senior Becky Kaplan scored the game-winning goal in the 59th minute and freshman Ashley Spivey added the insurance goal in the 65th minute. Senior Domenica Hodak had two assists in the match, while Spivey, junior Hayley Brock and freshman Alexis Prior-Brown each had one helper.

• Senior Olivia Wagner scored two goals, while freshman Ashley Spivey and junior Hayley Brock each chipped in a goal and an assist as Maryland thumped Towson, 5-0 (recap | stats), in the Terps' 2012 home opener. Senior Becky Kaplan scored the first goal of the game for Maryland, giving her her third game-winning goal of the season. Redshirt freshman Amanda Gerlitz and freshman Gabby Galanti each earned their first career assists in the victory.

• Senior Becky Kaplan put the Terps ahead with her first goal of the game in the third minute, then scored the game-winner in the 89th minute to lead Maryland to a thrilling 2-1 road victory at Alabama (recap | stats) on Sept. 6. Junior Hayley Brock assisted on both of Kaplan's goals with senior Olivia Wagner also getting an assist on the game-winner.

• A 30-yard strike into the upper left 90 by Kristina Maksuti in the 70th minute gave Fordham a 1-0 upset (recap | stats) of Maryland on Sept. 9 at Ludwig Field. The Terps held a 29-5 shot advantage over the Rams and had 13 corner kicks to Fordham's 0.

• Maryland bounced back in a big way - a historic way - becoming the first team ever to defeat North Carolina three times in three consecutive seasons when the Terps topped the Tar Heels, 2-1 (recap | stats), on Sept. 13. Junior Alex Reed gave the Terrapins a 1-0 lead with her goal in the 41st minute. Junior Hayley Brock netted the game-winner, finishing a solid ball across the box from senior Beck Kaplan in the 55th minute. Carolina made it a one-goal game on a penalty kick by Maria Lubrano in the 78th minute, but Maryland defense held off the Tar Heel charge and redshirt freshman keeper Rachelle Beanlands made two big second-half saves to preserve the history-making win.

• The Terrapins improved to 2-0-0 in the ACC for the first time since 1997 with a 4-1 win over Clemson (recap | stats) on Sept. 16 at Ludwig Field. Senior Becky Kaplan got the Terps on the board early with her team-leading seventh goal in the sixth minute. Senior Danielle Hubka scored her first of the season, which proved to be the eventual game-winner, in the 19th minute. Junior Hayley Brock scored Maryland's final two goals in the 74th and 76th minutes, respectively. Senior Olivia Wagner had two assists on the day, while Kaplan and freshmen Gabby Galanti, Sarah Molina and Ashley Spivey each had one helper.

• Maryland's top goal-scorers senior Becky Kaplan and junior Hayley Brock came through with goals to help the Terps earn a hard-fought 2-2 tie at No. 4 Duke (recap | stats) on Sept. 20. Brock scored in the 10th minute, finishing a long ball from senior Domenica Hodak. After the Blue Devils tied the match in the 54th minute, Kaplan gave Maryland the lead back with a quality, composed finish in the 75th minute off of a feed from freshman Aubrey Baker. The high-powered Blue Devils came through with the game-tying goal in the 87th minute to send the game to overtime.

• Hayley Brock and Becky Kaplan did it again with each scoring a goal to lead the Terps to their first win at Wake Forest since 1996 with a 2-1 victory on Sept. 23 (recap | stats). Brock score the first goal of the game, putting back her own rebound in the 10th minute. Kaplan scored what proved to be her fifth game-winner of the season in the 69th minute. Brock and Alex Reed earned assists on the counter-attack goal.

• Maryland fell behind No. 3 Virginia in the first half, but scored three times in the game's final 17 minutes to pull out a 3-1 victory over the Cavaliers (recap | stats) on Sept. 27. Senior Olivia Wagner scored the game-tying and game-winning goals on free kicks, while senior Danielle Hubka added the insurance goal off of assists from senior Becky Kaplan and junior Hayley Brock.

• The Terps had their five-game unbeaten streak come to an end with a 1-0 loss at No. 16 Virginia Tech (recap | stats) on Sept. 30. The Hokies scored the game's lone goal in the 44th minute on a quick restart following a questionable foul called on freshman Gabby Galanti, who appeared to have been pulled down by a VT defender on the play. Redshirt freshman Rachelle Beanlands made six saves for the Terps, while senior Olivia Wagner and junior Hayley Brock paced the offense with three shots apiece.

• Freshmen Maisie McCune and Erika Joab scored their first collegiate goals in the Terrapins' 5-1 win over Francis Marion (recap | stats) on Oct. 3. Junior Hayley Brock scored twice, including the game-winner, while freshman Ashley Spivey added her third of the season. Junior Kristen Schmidbauer and freshman Gabby Galanti each had two assists.

• Freshman Ashley Spivey scored twice to lead Maryland to a 3-0 victory at NC State (recap | stats) on Oct. 7. Junior Hayley Brock scored the game-winner off an assist by sophomore Cory Ryan. Spivey then added the insurance goal, finishing a long ball from senior Domenica Hodak. Spivey then tacked on an unassisted goal to put the game completely out of reach. Redshirt freshman Rachelle Beanlands made six saves behind the backline of Hodak, sophomore Shade Pratt and freshmen Shannon Collins and Erika Nelson to earn the first shutout in a conference match since Oct. 13, 2011 when the Terps won at Florida State, 3-0.

• Junior Hayley Brock added another chapter in her storybook season when she scored the game-winning goal two minutes into the first overtime to give the Terps a 3-2 win at No. 23 Boston College (recap | stats) on Oct. 11. Freshmen Shannon Collins and Gabby Galanti scored in regulation to send the match to overtime, while redshirt freshman Rachelle Beanlands made five stops in the victory.

• Miami continued to be a thorn in the side of the Terps, upending Maryland 1-0 in overtime (recap | stats) on Oct. 18. The game was a physical contest that saw three yellow cards and three red cards issued, including a red card to Hayley Brock, who will miss the game vs. the Seminoles.

• Maryland and Florida State battled to a stalemate for 85 minutes, but the Seminoles scored in the 86th minutes to top the Terps, 1-0 (recap | stats) on Oct. 21.

• Maryland advanced to the 2012 semifinals on Danielle Hubka's game-winning goal in the fifth minute of the first overtime to top No. 7 seed Miami, 2-1 (recap | stats) on Oct. 28. Junior Alex Reed gave the Terps a 1-0 lead before halftime, converting on a feed from freshman Gabby Galanti. The Hurricanes tied the match on a penalty kick by Tara Schwitter in the 73rd minute. That setup up Hubka's game-winner, which was made possible by sophomore Cory Ryan stealing the ball from a Miami defender inside the Hurricane defensive third. Ryan then played a perfect centering pass to Hubka inside the 18 for the easy finish.

• Becky Kaplan scored a goal and assisted on Hayley Brock's goal to lead the Terps into the 2012 ACC title game with a 2-0 victory over No. 3 seed Wake Forest (recap | stats) in the semis on Nov. 2. Brock scored in the fifth minute to set the tone for Maryland and Kaplan added the insurance goal in the 53rd minute. Maryland's defensive unit of midfielder Olivia Wagner and the back line of Domenica Hodak, Erika Nelson, Shade Pratt and Shannon Collins limited the high-powered Demon Deacon offense to just three shots on goal.

• The Terps' fourth trip to the ACC title game wasn't the charm as Maryland fell to Virginia, 4-0, (recap | stats) on Nov. 4 in Cary, N.C. Redshirt freshman Rachelle Beanlands made five saves, including several on 1v1 chances for the Cavaliers.

• Maryland rebounded with a 2-0 win over Stony Brook (recap | stats) in the first round of the NCAA tournament at Ludwig Field on Nov. 10. The match was scoreless until the 85th minute when senior Becky Kaplan stole the ball in the Seawolves' defensive third and finished into the lower left corner for her sixth game-winning goal of the season. Junior Hayley Brock tacked on the insurance goal off of assists by Kaplan and senior Danielle Hubak two minutes later. Redshirt freshman Rachelle Beanlands needed to make just one stop to earn her fourth full clean sheet of the season.

Youth Movement
• Through 19 games the Terrapins have played 14 true or redshirt freshmen. That might not seem too significant until noticing that Maryland's freshmen have played more than 50% of the team's on-field minutes.

• But the Terp freshmen aren't just playing - they're contributing. Eight freshmen - Ashley Spivey, Shannon Collins, Riley Barger, Gabby Galanti, Sarah Molina, Rachelle Beanlands, Erika Nelson and Aubrey Baker- have started for the Terps this season with Spivey and Collins starting every game. Freshmen have totaled 38 of the team's 137 points this season.

• Jonathan Morgan enters his first season at the helm of the Maryland women's soccer program after spending the previous five seasons on the Terrapin sideline as an assistant coach. He is 14-6-2 (.681) as the Terps' head coach.

• Maryland has played in 95 overtime games in its 26-year history. The Terps' all-time record in those overtime games is 29-24-43 (.532).

Terps Toppling Top 10 Teams
• Maryland has defeated a Top 10 ranked team 21 times in its history. The Terps' most memorable Top 10 victory, 2-1 at No. 2 North Carolina on Oct. 24, tied for he highest ranked opponent ever defeated by Maryland. The Terrapins defeated No. 2 Boston College on Oct. 7 in Chestnut Hill, Mass. Those two victories mark the first time in program history that Maryland has defeated two Top 10 teams in a single month. The Terps then added to that with another 2-1 win over No. 8 Florida State on Oct. 28. The latest Top 10 win for the Terps came on Nov.. 2, 2012 in the ACC semifianls at the WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, N.C., when Maryland defeated No. 6 Wake Forest, 2-0. That marked the Terps' first shutout of a top 10 team since their 1-0 win at No. 10 Tennessee in the 2006 season opener.Earlier this season, the Terps topped No. 6 North Carolina on Sept. 13, 2012 to become the first team in history to defeat the Tar Heels three straight times in three consecutive seasons. Starting Strong
• Maryland started 4-0-1 in ACC play for the first time in the program's 26-year history.

• Maryland's 2-1 win over No. 6 North Carolina on Sept. 13 gave the Terrapins their first 1-0-0 start in conference play since 2001. The last time the Terps opened ACC play with a win was on Sept. 2, 2001 when Maryland defeated No 17 Duke, 2-0, at Koskinen Stadium in Durham, N.C. From 2002-11, Maryland was 0-8-2 in conference openers.

• Maryland followed that up with a 4-1 win over Clemson on Sept. 16, which put the Terps at 2-0-0 in the ACC for the first time since 1997.

• The Terps continued their unprecedented success in the ACC by earning a 2-2 tie at No. 4 Duke on Sept. 20 and then winning 2-1 at No. 13 Wake Forest on Sept. 23.

• The ACC record grew to 4-0-1 with a thrilling come-from-behind 3-1 victory over No. 3 Virginia on Sept. 27. The Terps scored three times in the game's final 17 minutes to earn the win.

• Maryland started the 1996 season with a 2-0-1 record in the conference with wins over Wake Forest and Florida State and a tie with Virginia, but the Terps lost to NC State in their fourth ACC game.

Non-Conference Success
• Dating back to its 10-0 win over Mount St. Mary's in 2008, Maryland has lost only three times in its last 40 matches vs. non-ACC opponents. The Terps have outscored its non-conference opposition 112-21 in those 40 matches.

• The Terps recorded 20 straight wins over non-ACC foes before tying Georgetown, 1-1, in second round of the NCAA tournament in 2010. Maryland is now 32-3-4 in its last 39 non-conference games. The Terps had been unbeaten in 31-straight non-conference games prior to losing, 1-0, at Oklahoma State in the Sweet 16 of the 2011 NCAA tournament. So far this season Maryland has defeated Navy, 3-0, tied Villanova, 0-0, dropped a 1-0 decision at Ohio State, topped George Mason, 3-1, thumped Towson, 5-0, pulled out a late 2-1 win at Alabama, dropped a 1-0 decision to Fordham and finished its regular-season non-conference slate with a 5-1 win over Francis Marion.

122 And Counting At Ludwig Field
•The Terps won their 100th match at Ludwig Field with a 6-0 victory over Iona on Aug. 20, 2010. Since its opening in 1995, Ludwig Field has proved to be a tremendous home-field advantage for the Terps women's soccer team. All-time Maryland is 122-50-21 (.687) at Ludwig Field.

• Through the seasons, the Terps have had a knack for shutting teams out at Ludwig Field. Maryland has won 76 of its 122 victories (62.3%) at Ludwig Field via shutout. Add in the 12 0-0 ties the Terps have had at Ludwig Field and it totals 88 times that Maryland has shutout its opponent in 193 games (45.6%).
