Coastal Carolina Coach Shaun Docking
Opening statement:
"I think [Maryland's] got an excellent team. I really think they are certainly Final Four, and probably national champions this year. I think it's going to take a very special team to beat them. They're just so sharp in front of the goal. They had some fantastic opportunities tonight and they just absolutely made us pay."
"I'm proud of my guys; we had a great year. We put together some good sequences tonight, some good attacking soccer. I thought we had stretches there where we outplayed [Maryland]. It's a disappointing score line, 5-1, but overall I think they've got a fantastic team. They're so sharp. The speed of players is excellent. We've got a long way to go as a program to make up a gap like that."
Maryland Coach Sasho Cirovski
Opening statement:
"First of all, congratulations to Coastal on a fantastic season. They are an extremely talented team, and we expected this could become a shootout. I'm very proud of our guys. I thought defensively, we did a great job. Although this was two great attacking teams, I thought the team that was going to win was the one that was better defensively, and I thought our guys did a great job in neutralizing some of the great individual players that Coastal has."
"I'm especially delighted that we got some goals out of our wide-midfield positions. Sunny [Jane], who's been great all year at balancing teams and causing a lot of havoc, has not shown on the score sheet. The fact that he got two great goals today was outstanding. [Mikias Eticha] got his first goal of the year - we've been working on closing out the backside. And then Jereme [Raley] also gets in the right spot. I thought it was a great overall performance, I'm very proud of our guys and I'm delighted that we're moving on."
Junior Forward Patrick Mullins
On the team's mentality after scoring five goals:
"We're definitely tuned in and focused on getting to the next game now that we've taken care of this one. I think, like Sasho said, we've been really good going forward all year. We've been trying to focus really hard defensively and to defend like our lives depend on it; to take care of that side of the ball; to know we've got time and players up front that can put the ball away. It's great that we got all the guys on the score sheet. I couldn't be happier for Sunny. Like Sasho said, he's been unbalancing defenses all year and it's finally showing on the score sheet because he totally deserves it. Like I said, I think the important thing is that we kept a really good offensive team off the board - not off the board, but pretty much at bay."
Sophomore Goalkeeper Keith Cardona
On the defense:
"We just tried to make the game not so much of a run-and-gun type game because [Coastal Carolina is] really good at countering and has some individual stars up top. Going into the game, Sasho said we had to neutralize those guys and make sure we take our chances at countering as well. I thought we were very connected in the back, and aside from the one goal, I thought the complete man-to-man effort was there and showed on the score sheet."
