Terps Lead Nation in Attendance

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland field hockey team led the nation in attendance for the third straight year in 2012, with 7,725 fans coming out to the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex to catch the eight-time national champions in action.
An average of 643 fans came out to see the Terrapins play. It was the only game with over 1,000 fans in attendance.
"This annual NCAA attendance report is a testament to Maryland's women," head coach Missy Meharg said. "We thrive on playing a competitive, exciting and entertaining brand of hockey. I sincerely thank and appreciate our field hockey region and the rich hockey community that exists here. The College Park students, the faculty and fellow Terp student-athletes have been tremendous in their support."
The Terps also held the largest single-game attendance of the year when 1,123 members of Terp Nation came to see Maryland take on North Carolina on Oct. 20.
"The legacy of Maryland field hockey surpasses that of any other program in the country," marketing director Marty Summa said. "The team has great chemistry on the field and off and that makes it a fun team to watch. It's no wonder Terp Nation has come out to support them game after game. Our following knows the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex is the best home field in the country and it's the responsibility of the 12th man to continue that tradition."
Since its opening in 2003, the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex as provided Maryland a huge home field advantage. The Terps are 115-13 (.898) at the Complex.
The Complex has played host to 20 of Maryland's NCAA Tournament game, including two Final Fours (2007, 2010). The Terrapins are 19-1 in NCAA Tournament games at the Complex. They won the 2010 NCAA title on their home field in front of an NCAA-record 2,381 fans.
