The winner of the Terps-Leopards game will play the winner of the No. 4 Connecticut/No. 12 Northeastern game, which will be played earlier Saturday. The two winners will play at 2 p.m. Sunday.
Scouting The Terps
• The defending national champion Maryland is ranked No. 6 in the Penn Monto/NFHCA Division I National Coaches poll released Tuesday. The Terrapins are coming off of their eighth national title and a 19-4 overall record last year.
• The Terps fell to No. 1 North Carolina, 4-2, in Sunday's ACC Championship game in Chapel Hill.

Jill Witmer cut it to 1 with 1:35 to play and the Terps had momentum, but an empty net goal by the Tar Heels sealed the win.
• Witmer,
Megan Frazer and
Sarah Sprink were all named to the All-ACC Tournament Team Sunday. Sprink led the Terps in their three games with four goals. She is just the fourth player in history to score four or more goals in a single tournament.
Scouting The Leopards
• Lafayette is 17-2 overall and went 6-0 in Patriot League play this year. The Leopards are ranked No. 13 in the NFHCA poll and won the Patriot League championship for the second straight year.

• The Leopards played in an NCAA play-in game Tuesday and fell to Princeton, 6-0.
• Deanna Dicroce leads the Leopards with 18 goals and 51 points.
• Maryland is 2-0 vs. Lafayette. Their last meeting was Nov. 13, 1999 in the NCAA First Round in College Park. Maryland won 6-0 and went on to win its third NCAA title.
NCAA Tournament History
This will be Maryland's 25th NCAA Tournament appearance and 18th straight.
• The Terrapins own an NCAA Tournament record of 51-16 (.761) - more wins that any other school in the country.
• This will be the Terrapins' first NCAA First Round game on the road since 2002. Under Meharg, Maryland is 15-2 all-time in First Round play.
• The Terps have played in 15 Final Fours and 11 National Championship games.
• This year's senior class has played in three Final Fours and three NCAA Championship games, winning two (2010, 2011).
• In last year's NCAA Championship game, the Terrapins trailed top-seeded UNC 2-0 with four minutes to play.
Katie Gerzabek scored off a pass from
Harriet Tibble from the corner to make it 2-1 with 3:46 to play. With 17 seconds left in regulation, the Terps earned a penalty corner and scored with 00:00 on the clock to force overtime. In the 81st minute,
Jill Witmer came in as a sub and immediately took the ball, streaked down the field and scored for the win.

Due to being in the toughest conferences in the nation, the Terrapins play one of the strongest schedules in the country.

• The Terps have battled 8 of the 16 teams that participated in the 2011 NCAA Tournament. So far, they are 6-4 vs. those teams.
• Maryland played 10 of the teams ranked in the preseason top 25 and is 10-4 against them.
Head Coach
Missy Meharg
The 2010 and 2011 NFHCA National Coach of the Year and ACC Coach of the Year,
Missy Meharg returns for her 25th season at the helm of the successful Terrapin field hockey program. Her current career record is 448-111-9 (.797). Below is a breakdown of just a few of her highlights since she took the reins in 1988:

• Nine NFHCA Coach of the Year honors
• Six ACC Coach of the Year awards
• 14 NCAA Final Four Appearances
• Seven Honda Awards won by five players

Staff Updates
The Terrapins welcome a newcomer and a returnee to the program in 2012.
Marvin Bam joins as an assistant coach/technical director and
Katie O'Donnell comes on board as a student assistant coach.
• Bam comes to College Park after playing and coaching professionally in South Africa and the United Kingdom. As a member of the the South African hockey team, Bam played in over 30 international tournaments and test series, as well as the 2008 Beijing Olympics and the 2006 and 2002 Men's World Cups. He has worked with six hockey clubs between the UK and South Africa as director and head coach.
• O'Donnell is the most decorated player in Maryland hockey history. The four-time ACC Offensive Player of the Year and four-time First Team All-American recently started for Team USA in the London Olympics. She led the Terps to two national titles (2008, 2010) and three ACC titles (2008, 2009, 2010) in her career in College Park.
Oh Captain, My Captain
Seniors
Megan Frazer and
Janessa Pope will serve as the Terrapins' captains for the 2012 season. Both have been on the Terps' 2010 and 2011 NCAA championship teams.
• Frazer, a midfielder from Derry, Northern Ireland, is the 2011 Honda Sports Award winner, an All-American and was one of two team captains last season.
• Pope, a native of Harrisburg, Pa., was a key member of the Terps' championship run last season and has been an active team leader for years.
Terps Bring in Postseason Accolades
•
Megan Frazer,
Harriet Tibble and
Jill Witmer were all named to the All-ACC Team earlier this week. All are three-time honorees.
• Frazer earned the nation's top individual honor last year in the Honda Award. The senior co-captain has 26 points on the season and is in the top 10 of the league in shots (60), goals (9) and assists (8).
• Tibble was a Second Team NFHCA All-American last season. She has 12 assists on the year. She has anchored a Maryland defense that is second in the country in shutouts with eight in 21 games played.
• Witmer was a First Team NFHCA All-American last season. She leads the Terrapins in scoring this year with 13 goals. She also has nine assists for a team-high 35 points. She is in the top 10 of the league in goals, assists and points.
• Frazer and fellow senior co-captain
Janessa Pope were both named to the NFHCA Senior Game, which will be held Nov. 17 in Norfolk, Va.
• Frazer, Witmer and freshman
Sarah Sprink were all named to the All-ACC Tournament Team. Sprink scored four goals in the Terps' ACC Tournament run and was just the fourth player in history to score four or more goals in a single tournament.
Home Sweet Home
Since its opening in 2003, the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex has provided the Maryland hockey program a huge home field advantage.
• The Terps are 115-13 (.898) all-time at the Complex.
• Maryland won 38 straight games at the Complex from Oct.11, 2008 through Oct. 14, 2011. The streak ended with a 5-2 loss to then-No. 1 Old Dominion.
• The Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex has played home to 20 of Maryland's NCAA Tournament games, including two Final Fours (2007, 2010). The Terrapins are 19-1 in those games and won the 2010 national title on their home field.
Pack the House
• The Maryland field hockey team has increasingly attracted more and more fans to the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex season after season.
• An NCAA record crowd of 2,381 came out to watch as Maryland beat North Carolina 3-2 in double overtime for the 2010 national championship at the Complex.
• The Terrapins have led the ACC in attendance for five straight years. In 2011, Maryland averaged over 450 fans per game in College Park and over 5,400 fans saw the Terps in action.

Meharg Named ESPNU/ESPN The Magazine Top 20 Recruiter
Terrapin head coach Missy Meharg was named one of college athletics' top 20 recruiters by ESPNU/ESPN The Magazine in January.
"ESPNU AND THE MAGAZINE asked an all-star panel a seemingly simple question: Who are the top 20 recruiters in college sports? We spoke with three dozen experts, from Mag college football Insider Bruce Feldman to volleyball legend Karch Kiraly to women's World Cupper Cat Whitehill. Turns out, baseball coaches aren't the only ones pulling roster magic from a hat half-filled with scholarships."
