Crutcher Earns AVCA Honorable Mention Honors

Dec. 4, 2012

LEXINGTON, Ky. - University of Maryland sophomore Ashleigh Crutcher has been named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-East Region Honorable Mention team, the association announced Tuesday.

Crutcher, an All-ACC performer, is the first Maryland volleyball player to earn honorable mention honors and the first Terrapin to be recognized by the AVCA since Rachel Wagener earned all-region honors in 2005.

The native of Raleigh, N.C., started in all 32 matches for the Terps this season and led the team with 443 kills, which is the sixth-highest single-season total in school history. Crutcher's 3.79 kills per set average ranked third in the ACC. In conference play, Crutcher knocked down 295 kills, the second most in the league, and averaged 3.88 per set.

Crutcher totaled 20 or more kills in four matches and finished the season with three double-doubles. The sophomore led the team in kills in 22 of 32 matches.

In a standout performance against Georgia Tech on Oct. 26, Crutcher knocked down 20 kills, and had 28 two days later against Clemson becoming the first Terrapin with 20 or more kills in consecutive matches since Maria DiLivio totaled 20 against Clemson on Oct. 31, 2003, and 20 against Georgia Tech on Nov. 1, 2003.

Crutcher's 28 kills against the Tigers are the most kills by an ACC player this season and are the most by a Maryland player since Lynnsy Jones had 33 against Florida State on Oct. 12, 2002.
