COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The University of Maryland has teamed up with SECU, Maryland's largest state-chartered financial cooperative, for the Points for Pediatrics Program this basketball season. For every point scored by the men's basketball team, SECU will donate $5 to the University of Maryland Children's Hospital.
SECU has guaranteed a minimum donation of $10,000 regardless of how many points the Terps score this season. In addition, SECU will host and recognize University of Maryland Children's Hospital patients, families and staff when Maryland takes on Wake Forest on Saturday, February 2.
"I am proud that Maryland basketball is able to support SECU and the University of Maryland Children's Hospital for such a worthy cause," said men's basketball head coach Mark Turgeon. "It is important for the patients and their families to have a top-notch medical facility available. It is a great cause to be a part of."
"SECU is proud to be this year's sponsor for the Points for Pediatrics program," said Rod Staatz, President and CEO of SECU. "The University of Maryland Children's Hospital has long been recognized for their superior care and treatment of children with chronic and critical illness, and we are honored to support them. We wish the Maryland basketball team the best of luck, and we look forward to our partnership throughout the season."
"As a loyal University of Maryland fan, I already cheer loudly for the Terps, but now I cheer even louder with every point scored knowing that a donation is coming to the University of Maryland Children's Hospital," said Dr. Steven J. Czinn, Physician-in-Chief, University of Maryland Children's Hospital and Professor and Chair, Department of Pediatrics, University of Maryland School of Medicine. "We are so thankful to SECU for supporting Points for Pediatrics. Their philanthropy is making a lasting impact on the health of children in Maryland."
