For the second consecutive season, sophomore Mary Cushman has been named to the 2011 All-Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Team the league announced Wednesday. It is the 17th time a Maryland volleyball player has received the distinction since the league's inaugural all-academic team in 2005.
Cushman led the Terps with 355 kills and averaged. 3.01 per set last season. The Rochester, N.Y., native has led the Terps in kills in both of her seasons in College Park.
In 32 matches, Cushman tallied seven double-doubles which tied for second on the team, and her 197 digs in conference play ranked second on the squad.
To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during her academic career.
Miami's Lane Carico earned 2011 ACC Volleyball Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors. Duke led the conference with five members on the All-ACC Academic Team.
