BRIDGEPORT, Pa. - Maryland's 8-3 start to the 2012 season has translated into its highest ranking in the women's varsity national poll.
For the second week in a row the Terrapins, who are in first place in the CWPA Western Division with a 2-0 record, have registered their highest ranking.
Maryland, which was 14th in last week's poll, has knocked off five top-20 teams, including a 12-10 victory over then No. 16 Hartwick Saturday and a 9-8 win over then No. 11 Indiana Sunday.
UCLA, Stanford and USC rank first, second and third, respectively, in the poll.
Prior to last week, the highest the Terps reached in the national poll during their eight-year history was 17th which occurred multiple times.
Maryland is also first in this week's CWPA Division I poll. The Terps were third last week, but vaulted over Indiana and Michigan after last weekend's three wins at RPI.
