ORANGE PARK, Fla. -
Freshman Juliet Vongphoumy registered her fourth top-10 finish of the year to lead the Maryland women's golf team to its second consecutive second-place finish on the year at the JMU/Eagle Landing Invitational at Eagle Landing Golf Club Sunday. Maryland finished with a three-day total of 886 (295-290-301).
Vongphoumy, who lead the tournament in par-4 scoring (3.90) and was second in birdies (11), entered the final round tied for second and was able to secure the position with a 2-over 74. The Providence, R.I., native completed the tournament with even-par 216 (71-71-74). It is Vongphoumy's second second-place finish in a row.
Freshman Emily Gimpel carded a 3-over 75 in the final round to tally a career-low 219 (74-70-75) and finish tied for eighth. Gimpel's previous 54-hole low was 225.
Junior Christine Shimel registered her third top-10 finish of the year after firing a 1-over 73 to finish the tournament with a 219 (74-73-73) to tie for 10th.
Senior Jessica Hollandsworth tied for 47th with a 232 (77-76-79) and junior Hayley Brown (76-78-81) tied for 59th with a 235.
USF won the team title with an 883 (287-297-299). Campbell's Kaylin Yost took home the individual championship with a 215 (67-74-74).
Maryland travels to the Pinehurst Challenge on Monday, March 19.
