PINEHURST, N.C. - Three Terps finished in the top 25 to lead the Maryland women's golf team to its third consecutive second place finish Tuesday at the Pinehurst Challenge at Pinehurst #6. The Terps finished the tournament with an 18-over 882 (296-290-296), 17 strokes behind 21st-ranked NC State.

Freshman Juliet Vongphoumy tied for the fourth-lowest round of the day with a 1-under 71. The Providence, R.I., native started the day tied for 13th and climbed six spots to finish in a tie for seventh with a three-round total of 218 (73-74-71). It is Vongphoumy's fifth top-10 finish of the year and her second in a row.

Junior Christine Shimel kept pace with the field with a 2-over 74. Shimel started the day alone in seventh place, but finished the tournament in a tie. Shimel completed the 54 holes with year-low 218 (74-70-74) for her fourth top-10 finish of the year.

Completing the trio of Terps in the top 25, sophomore Emily Gimpel fired a 2-over 74 for the second consecutive round to tie for 25th. Gimpel completed the tournament with a 225 (77-74-74) tying her career-low which she set last weekend at the JMU/Eagle Landing Invitational.

Senior Jessica Hollandsworth finished just outside the top 25. Hollandsworth carded a 226 (76-72-78) to tie for the 28th. Junior Hayley Brown tied for 34th with a 227 (73-77-77).

The Terps head to Stockbridge, Ga., Monday, March 26 to compete in the John Kirk Panther Intercollegiate.
