STOCKBRIDGE, Ga. -
Four Terps placed in the top 15 to lead the Maryland women's golf team to the championship Tuesday at the John Kirk Panther Intercollegiate at Eagle Landing Country Club with a 21-over 885 (295-293-297). It is Maryland's third title of the year, which is the most since at least the 1999-2000 season, and its sixth consecutive top-2 finish.
Senior Jessica Hollandsworth carded a team-low 1-over 73 in the final round Tuesday to move up the leaderboard and into a tie for sixth. The Floyd, Va., native completed the tournament with a 54-hole year-low 218 (73-72-73).
After firing an even-par 72 in the second round to move into a tie for ninth, sophomore Emily Gimpel carded a final-round 2-over 74 to finish with a 221 (75-72-74) to tie for eighth. It is Gimpel's second top-10 finish of the season.
Junior Christine Shimel and freshman Juliet Vongphoumy tied for 13th. Shimel completed the third round with a 2-over 74 and Vongphoumy closed with a 4-over 76. Both golfers finished the tournament with a 223 with each of them earning their third top-20 finish of the season.
Junior Hayley Brown tied for 33rd with a three-round total of 234 (76-76-82).
Maryland edged out second place Mississippi State by six strokes. East Tennessee State's Gabriella Wahl won the individual title with a 7-under 209.
After a week off, the Terps will compete at the Rebel Intercollegiate on Friday, April 6.
