AIKEN, S.C. - Freshman Ben Warnquist followed up a second round 74 with a team-low 73 in the third round to lead the Maryland men's golf team to a 14th-place finish Tuesday at the Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate at Palmetto Golf Club. Warnquist's final-round 73 was one of the top 30 scores in the third round.

"We certainly got off to a rough start," said Director of Intercollegiate Golf Jason Rodenhaver. "We had five weeks to get ready to play, and we just didn't get it done. "But we'll move on and we'll be ready to go next week at The General Hackler Championships."

After carding a 74 in the second round Monday afternoon, Warnquist finished with a 3-over 73 in the final round for a three-round total of 224 (77-74-73) which placed him in a tie for 45th.

Senior Joey Rice and sophomore Sean Bosdosh finished in a tie for 61st. Rice totaled a 227 after posting an opening round 4-over 74, a 5-over 75 in the second round and third-round 78. Bosdosh opened and closed the event with a 6-over 76 and carded a plus-5 75 in the second round.

Freshman Jordan Sweet tied for 81st with a 234 (79-73-82) and sophomore Will Wiseman placed 84th with a 237 (75-83-79).

Clemson won the team title with an 854 (286-285-283) to finish one stroke ahead of second-place Virginia (292-278-285). Virginia's Ben Kohles (69-70-69-208) narrowly edged out Clemson's Crawford Reeves by posting a 69 in the final round.

Maryland heads to The General Hackler Championship hosted by Coastal Carolina at DeBordieu Club on Sunday, March 11.
