COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Less than a week after laying claim to the CWPA Western Division regular-season crown, the Maryland water polo team will attempt to take home the tournament title.

The top-seeded and 10th-ranked Terps (17-4, 6-0), who have won six straight games and 12 of their last 13, face No. 4 seed Hartwick at 4:30 p.m. Saturday in Bloomington, Ind. (update: Hartwick defeated No. 5 seed Gannon, 19-4, in Saturday morning's opening round).

Maryland received a bye in the first round of the seven-team tournament. If the Terps win Saturday, they advance to the championship game which is scheduled for noon Sunday.

Maryland secured first place in the division and the top seed in the tournament with a 10-9 win over 13th-ranked Michigan Sunday in College Park.

Senior Christine Goetsch's goal with 25 seconds left gave Maryland a perfect 6-0 regular-season division mark and its first-ever win over Michigan, which has represented the Eastern Conference at three of the last four NCAA tournaments.

No. 12 Indiana (24-7, 5-1), which is serving as host to the two-day Western Division tournament, is seeded second and 13th-ranked Michigan (18-11, 4-2) is third.

All 13 teams from the Southern and Western Divisions will play in the CWPA Eastern Championship (April 27-29 in Providence, R.I.) for an automatic NCAA berth.

By capturing the division tournament title, the Terps would be a likely No. 1 seed in the Eastern Championship, having already beaten Indiana, Michigan and Princeton this season.

The 14th-ranked Tigers are the top seed in the six-team Southern Division Championship which is taking place this weekend at Bucknell.

During its recent hot streak, Maryland has received solid contributions throughout its roster.

Leading point producer Allison Campbell (68) has scored 20 goals during the six-game winning streak and sophomore Nicole Tobin has 15 goals over the last six contests, including a game-high tying three against Michigan.

Sophomore Katie Ermakova has been an all-around threat all season for the Terps. She is second in goals (40) and points (52), and third in steals (30). Ermakova won the Division Player of the Week award on Tuesday after combining for seven points and two steals against Salem International and Michigan.

Senior captain Shelby Reyes, who was the top defensive player in the division last week, is averaging 9.4 blocks per game. She had 11 stops against Michigan, her fourth time in double figures this season.

Terps Move up in the Poll: Maryland improved this week in the national varsity top 20 poll which was released Wednesday. The Terps went from No.11 in the national poll to 10th, matching their highest-ever ranking (also 10th on March 14, 2012). Maryland remained first in the CWPA Division I poll. Indiana is second, Princeton third and Michigan fourth.
