ACC Championships Central | First Round Results | Second Round Tee Times

Sophomore Emily Gimpel and freshman Juliet Vongphoumy each carded a 3-over 74 to lead the Maryland women's golf team on the opening day of the ACC Championships at the par-71, 6,163-yard Sedgefield Country Club. Maryland completed the round in seventh place with a 307.
In their first appearance at the ACC tournament, Gimpel and Vongphoumy finished the round tied for 11th. The two Terps are one stroke out of the top 10 and three strokes outside the top 5.
"Today was a tough day with tough conditions," said Director of Intercollegiate Golf Jason Rodenhaver. "We'll rebound tomorrow and get back into the tournament."
Junior Christine Shimel is tied for 30th after carding a 6-over 77. Senior Jessica Hollandsworth shot an 82 and is in 42nd, while senior Lauren Varnas is in 45th with an 88.
Duke is in the lead after the first round. The Blue Devils finished with a 4-under 280 and lead second-place North Carolina by 10 strokes.
The Blue Devils' Alejandro Cangrejo is first with a 2-under 69.
Second round action begins Saturday at 8:30 a.m. The Terps are in the first group with Florida State and Miami.
