In her first appearance at the ACC Championships, freshman Juliet Vongphoumy carded a 3-over 74 in the third round Sunday to move three spots up the leaderboard to total a 225 (74-77-74) and tie for 12th on the final day at Sedgefield Country Club. Along with Vongphoumy, junior Christine Shimel and sophomore Emily Gimpel placed in the top 25.
The Maryland women's golf team finished seventh with a three-day total of 917 (307-302-308).
Shimel shot a 5-over 76 Sunday to finish tied for 17th with a 227 (77-74-76). Gimpel, who tied for second with 34 pars over the three rounds, was three strokes behind Shimel with a 230 (74-79-77) to tie for 25th.
Senior Jessica Hollandsworth finished 36th. The Floyd, Va., carded a 237 (82-72-83). Senior Lauren Varnas finished with a 267 (88-98-81) and in 45th place.
Duke led wire-to-wire to take the team title finishing with an 875 (280-303-292). The Blue Devils' Lindy Duncan won the individual title with a 3-under 210 (70-69-71).
