Second Round Results
OXFORD, Miss. -
Senior Jessica Hollandsworth carded a season-low 71 and junior Christine Shimel fired a 72 Saturday to lead the Maryland women's golf team at the Rebel Intercollegiate at Ole Miss Golf Course. Behind Hollandsworth and Shimel, the Terps climbed five spots on the leaderboard and head into Sunday's final round tied for sixth with a 603 (308-295).
Hollandsworth's 71 tied for the fourth lowest score of the round and is her lowest 18-hole score since the final round at the UNCG/Starmount Classic (70) in October. The Floyd, Va., native begins Sunday tied for sixth with a 1-over 145 (74-71) and six strokes behind the leader, Jaclyn Jansen of Baylor.
With her second-round 72, Shimel moved 22 spots up the leaderboard and into a tie for 33rd with a 151 (79-72). Freshman Juliet Vongphoumy carded a 2-over 74 Saturday and is tied for 24th with a 150 (76-74).
Sophomore Emily Gimpel is tied for 61st after a 6-over 78 in the second round. Freshman Jessica Uem is in 86th place with a two-day total of 167 (86-81).
No. 18 Baylor leads the team competition by four strokes over host Mississippi with a 577 (292-285). The Bears' Jansen is one stroke ahead of Ole Miss' Natalie Gleadall with a 5-under 139 (70-69).
