COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maryland volleyball head coach Tim Horsmon announced the signing of student-athletes Dani Bozzini, Amy Dion and Kamrin Gold on Tuesday. The trio joins Mackenzie Dagostino, Emily Fraik and Kelsey Hrebenach as part of the 2012 class.
Starting in 2006, Bozzini played her club volleyball at Vision Volleyball. Bozzini and Vision qualified for USA Volleyball Girl's Junior National Championships every season including a third-place finish in the open division in 2008. For the past three seasons, Bozzini served as the captain.
The native of Los Gatos, Calif., played her high school volleyball at Archbishop Mitty in San Jose, Calif., which is part of the prestigious West Catholic Athletic League (WCAL). Bozzini helped the Monarchs to two California Interscholastic Association (CIF) Division II titles in 2009 and 2010, and a second place finish in the WCAL in 2011. Her senior season, Bozzini served as the team captain and led the team in service aces.
"Dani plays for one of the strongest clubs in California," said Horsmon. "Dani gives us another great back-row player and bolsters our passing and defense. We really like Dani's athleticism and her personality on the court. I also think Dani will give us some versatility in the back row."
Dion is a two-time AAU national champion with Sky High Volleyball Club as a libero. In 2010, she was named to the AAU All-American first team for the second year in a row, while in 2011, she earned PrepVolleyball High School All-America honorable mention status while helping her club to its second consecutive AAU Girls' Junior national title and a third-place finish at the USA Junior National Championships.
"Amy is one of the most accomplished liberos in the junior ranks right now," said Horsmon. "Amy is a great competitor who will bring toughness to our team and is a talented serve receiver and defender. I really like that she is a team player and seems to make people around her better. Her leadership is evident on and off of the court."
Named a PrepVolleyball Defensive Dandie the past four years, Dion helped Sky High Volleyball Club to a third place finish at the 2009 Junior Volleyball Directors Association National Championships and a bronze medal at the 2009 AAU Girl's Junior National Championships.
A Huntley, Ill., native, Dion started all four years at Huntley High School and served as team captain her final two seasons. Dion was named to the Fox Valley All-Conference team in each of her four years at Huntley. She was named to the Fox Valley All-Area first team in 2010 and 2011 and was voted to The News-Gazette All-State first team as a senior.
Gold was a finalist for Michigan Gatorade Player of the Year and Michigan Miss Volleyball in 2011. She starred at Carman-Ainsworth High School in Flint, Mich., for four years and served as team captain for three years. Gold finished as the school's all-time leader in kills (837), digs (670) and service aces (129).
"Kamrin is a strong all-around player who will be a talented six-rotation outside hitter for us," said Horsmon. "When we started recruiting her two years ago, we were recruiting her as a setter which shows her versatility. Kam is steady and wants the ball in the big moments of a match which says a lot about her confidence in her ability."
While at Carman-Ainsworth, Gold was named to the all-region team and voted to the All Big Nine first team all four years. In her junior and senior seasons, Gold earned honorable mention status on the Michigan Class A All-State Team. She played her club volleyball with Legacy Volleyball which was ranked in the top 20 nationally the past two years.
