Final Round Results

Freshman Juliet Vongphoumy carded the second-lowest NCAA regional score for a Terrapin golfer all-time Saturday to lead the Maryland women's golf team to a 17th-place finish at the NCAA East Regional at the par-72, 6,253-yard Blue Course at Penn State Golf Courses. The Terps finished with a 914 (303-307-304), which is the second-lowest team score all-time in NCAA competition.
Vongphoumy tallied two birdies on the front nine to enter the turn at 1-under, but double bogeys on No. 14 and No. 17 caused Vongphoumy to finish with a 3-over 75. The Providence, R.I., native finished the tournament with a 5-over 221 (68-78-75) and in a tie for 19th.
Senior Jessica Hollandsworth wrapped up her collegiate career with a 12-over 228 (77-74-77) and in a tie for 65th.
Sophomore Emily Gimpel fired the Terps' lowest round of the afternoon. Gimpel carded a 1-over 73 and tallied birdies on No. 2, No. 3 and No. 13. She finished tied for 76th with a 14-over 230 (78-79-73).
Junior Christine Shimel tied for 93rd with a 19-over 235 (80-76-79) and senior Lauren Varnas carded a 166 (85-81). Varnas missed the opening round due to illness.
South Carolina won the regional with an 873. The Gamecocks advance to the NCAA Championship along with Alabama, Arizona State, Duke, Florida, Michigan State, Texas and Texas A&M.
Texas A&M's Katerina Ruzickova led wire-to-wire to win the regional title with a 3-under 213.
